We had the good fortune of connecting with Khalil Sellers Raina Madrid and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Khalil Sellers, how does your business help the community?
We originally started our account just to share our love of food and finding new places to eat in our community, and from the beginning we knew we wanted to highlight locally owned, minority owned, woman owned etc. businesses. The businesses we promote and the content we share is heavily representative of our values and who we are as people. Through our account, we’ve been able to build a platform in which we can promote businesses and do what we can to help keep small businesses open in the current economy. We believe in “voting with your dollar”, and the social impact of supporting the community you live in. We are both queer and racial minorities, so being able to help people like us is the best part of what we do.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We are very proud of our backgrounds and how the community we grew up in makes an impact on our content. We are both from the Denver/Aurora area, so we have a nostalgic connection to many aspects of this city.

Consistency was key for us in growing our account, as well as staying true to our authentic selves. This has not always been easy, but it is what keeps us passionate about what we do. We are both naturally political people, and we have previously struggled with how to incorporate this into our account. No matter what, always stand up for what we believe in even when it’s uncomfortable.

We have learned that it is okay to say no if something doesn’t align with our values and beliefs. We have also learned that we won’t appeal to everyone and that is completely okay.

We want the world to understand how impactful it can be to share a meal with others. It is one of the few things that brings humans together as one and something that we can all share and enjoy.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We want to shoutout our peers and now lifelong friends in the Denver content creator community. When our journey began, we felt fully embraced by this community which gave us the motivation and confidence to keep going.
