Meet Khoree The Poet | Poet/Actor/Author/Contemporary Artist/Emcee

We had the good fortune of connecting with Khoree The Poet and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Khoree, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always believed that if I want to succeed on my own terms, I must bet on myself. I understood that there’s no substitute for hard work and quitting can’t be an option.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is the place where Poetry, music and song mingle. I combine these three elements to create my own style of poetry. What sets me apart from other poets is how my poetry is delivered. It sounds like a song with a hook with my poetry intertwined. The result does not sound like rapping or singing. Just a poet with a melodic accompaniment.

I am most excited about the opportunities and the doors that I have opened for the art of poetry. I’ve played a lot of venues where I was the first poet to do it. I have and still am showing the world that poetry is just as exciting and entertaining to the mainstream as is R&B, POP, Hip Hop etc…

This was not and is not an easy journey. I got where I am today with a lot of hard work, determination, and the right team with me.
Initially, it was a fight in this business proving that my style of poetry can be on the same stage with most of today’s artists, no matter the genre.

To be honest, I am still overcoming those challenges. A lot of promoters hear my stuff and they really like it but they are hesitant to book me until they see it for themselves or they hear about how the audiences love my style. Most have a preconceived notion of what they think poetry is going to sound like. When they hear my style and then see it live, most are blown away. I heard the line “that’s not regular poetry, it’s different”

I have learned that no matter how many No’s you get ( and there was be a lot of no’s) You don’t deviate from your passion. It’s not a dream, because dreams go away when you awake. Never quit.

I want the world to know that Khoree The Poet (KTP) and his brand is here for so many positive reasons. I will continue to reach mainstream audiences and entertain the world. As my tag line says “Touching The World, One Word At A Time”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I literally just moved to Las Vegas, so I would have to get back to you on that one.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There is my great team of course that I couldn’t make it day to day without. However, the main and continued driving force behind Khoree The Poet as an artist and brand is my better half, Veronica Fleming. She saw something in me and what I do and truly believed that I was a brand and my style of performing needed to be seen and heard by the mainstream. She supported and pushed me and created the brand.  She encouraged me to share what I do with the world and the rest is history.
