We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristen Torres and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristen, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting my own business was always a distant dream, something I never thought would actually become a reality. For years, I worked for others—it was all I knew, and breaking away from that mindset seemed impossible. But when I realized I needed more flexibility to be present for my daughters, I understood that owning my own business would give me the balance between work and family that I was longing for. So, nearly a year ago, I made the decision to leave behind my 15-year career in the orthodontic field. That’s when my husband said, “This is your moment—go for it.”
While many people encouraged me to take the leap, I was filled with fear and uncertainty, overwhelmed by everything involved in entrepreneurship. But with the support of my family and friends—who not only offered guidance but truly believed in my talent—I was able to push through the fear and bring my charcuterie business to life.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am thrilled to create unforgettable grazing tables, charcuterie cart setups, and boards that leave lasting impressions for people’s special events. My mother was the best at making holidays and gatherings truly special, always bringing our family together. I aspire to do the same for others through my work.
The journey to get where I am today hasn’t been easy. Navigating the myriad of licenses required in the food industry has been a challenge, but I see it as a vital part of the process. As a newcomer to business ownership, I understand that there are countless lessons ahead. Growth comes from learning, and I embrace that wholeheartedly.
Hailing from a small mountain town in New Mexico, where traditions and community hold significant value, I want my business to reflect those roots. My goal is to help families and friends create cherished memories that will become their own lasting traditions. Through my charcuterie offerings, I aim to facilitate connections and bonds that will endure a lifetime.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would definitely go to the mountains. Colorado has so many beautiful mountain scenes. A concert at Red Rocks would be on the list. As far as food and drinks, trying new places and breweries.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, I want to express my deepest gratitude to my husband, my rock, and my biggest supporter. He’s my “unpaid employee” who, even after a full day at his 9-5 job, is right there helping me keep my business running smoothly. His unwavering support, time, and love are things I could never fully repay, but I am endlessly grateful for them.
I’m also thankful for my sisters and my dad, who may live far away but have always been there when I needed them. Distance doesn’t diminish their constant support. My mom is a huge inspiration—she was one of the hardest working women I knew. My work ethic, party planning, and love for helping others all come from her. Sadly, she passed away 8 years ago, and I wish she could have seen me start my own business.
I’ve been blessed with so many friends and family members who have promoted and hyped up my business, and I’m so appreciative of all of them. A special shoutout to one particular husband-and-wife duo who have truly gone above and beyond. He built my charcuterie cart from scratch, and she has been invaluable in helping me with branding and business strategies. We’ve supported each other in so many ways, and that’s what friendship is all about.
Most importantly, I’m thankful for my daughters, who are my reason and my motivation behind everything I do. They are my “why” and keep me inspired every day.
I’m incredibly thankful for every single person in my corner. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
