We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristie Allbritten and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristie, why did you pursue a creative career?
I choose a creative career like photography because my son has a disability, and he did not enjoy getting his picture taken. My husband challenged me one evening to be the change that I desired to see in the photography industry and transform the way families viewed the perfect image. My desire is to serve families, exactly as they are and to share their story by interacting with them as they were created to be. I began by buying a camera, finding a mentor and investing in a college course to start my journey of learning, not only lighting and editing but how to see people and photograph them in their own unique way.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Our current climate is full of photographers and there is beauty in knowing that we can all bring something special to the industry but what I am most excited about is being part of The Capable Community. This is a group of photographers who have been educated and taught how to serve families and individuals with disabilities. Having a professional photographer who has compassion and understanding brings inclusion to our world and in my opinion, makes it a better place! Having a specialty or even a couple specialties is what I am most proud of in the photography trade. Taking the time to figure out what areas I am most talented in has given me the confidence to shine the brightest for my work. I specialize in families, headshots and high school seniors.
I define success by how I made my clients feel at the end of their session. I work hard to create an environment where everyone is enjoying the experience and creating memories.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Working outdoors here in Colorado has been such a blessing as I get to spend time in all different types of environments, like using the mountains as a backdrop for a family session to photographing a high school senior in a downtown urban area.
