We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristin Rossi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristin, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Let me just start off by saying that starting your own business can be extremely overwhelming no matter what age you are. I started my first business, Kristin’s Nail Boutique, in West Branch Michigan at the tender age of nineteen. Considering taking that entrepreneurial leap was not even in my thought process. When you’re nineteen you can barely tie your own shoes let alone run a business, but because you’re so naive you don’t think about the consequences. That can give you the edge to eliminate that element of fear. Now, 29 years later, I’m starting yet another business, and what I have found with keeping those same attributes afloat is what keeps me constantly evolving and leveling up! Basically, always GO FOR IT! Don’t let anything or anyone stop you! If you can dream it, you can do it!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
First let me tell you what sets me apart from others, and then I’ll tell you a little about my business. First and foremost I set that bar high, and I’m in competition with myself and myself alone! I have high expectations of myself, and I stay the course with what I want to accomplish. I have a relentless work ethic. I work 7 days a week, balancing my personal, and work life. It’s a lot, but maintaining a healthy dose of optimism can help when times get tough, when projects are harder to tackle and when you may be a little more reluctant to take on other endevors, but showcasing that can do positive attitude will eliminate all of those challenging times. So you want to hear about my business do ya? Which one? Right now due to constant rebranding over the last 10 months because of the Covid-19 pandemic I had to adapt a business that was thriving and growing at a rapid pace. That all came to a screeching halt in March of 2019. I went from working fifteen hours a day, with one on one clients, to both national and international photo shoots, as well as national and international fashion shows to nothing at all. Suddenly I found myself in a position I’ve never been in before and that despite all of the challenges that the pandemic presented, this was actually an opportunity. I realized in order to stay relevant I needed to continue getting my work and brand out there and seen, without comprising the safety of myself, my family and others. The question at hand was how do I do someone’s nails without that personal contact? The answer was simple, you don’t! That’s when I realized I was already doing it, Press On Nails! I’ve been doing press on nails for years! For models in photo shoots, fashions shows, and drag queens. Up until recently I’ve usually applied them personally. Due to the restrictions at hand, and a few tweaks to the application process I have made it a service that my clients can actually apply to themselves. This eliminates the direct contact, and what should have been detrimental to my business, only opened me up to a GLOBAL cliental. Who would you like to shoutout?
I know most people will probably say their mother, father, or God. Had this question been asked to me several years ago, heck, even a year ago, I would have said my father, but not today. Don’t get me wrong, I am eternally grateful for my father and the instrumental role he played in my life, and business. However, who really deserves all of the credit is my younger, former self. She was strong, fearless, confident, and took all the risks that lead me to where I am today. I am able to pursue so many new avenues in my industry, because I am mindful of my achievements, and able to recognize how far I’ve come. As a result my experience, self worth, and talent have dramatically increased my appreciation of who I am today. Shoutout to Nails By KR! Now, you don’t think I do this all on my own do you? I’m sure you’ve heard the term, it takes a village. Well, thanks to these three most amazing, talented, badass, Denver babes, Nails By KR wouldn’t be where it is today. Whitney Dorman – Graphic Designer. Whitney is the woman behind my logo, my brand and everything Nails By KR related. I am beyond grateful for her talent and commitment to the Nails By KR brand. It’s basically her baby, I just do the nails. Caroline Miller – Creative Director. Caroline is the one with all of the vision. Her raw talent is second to none. She is also the single most amazing photographer. Over the years, because of her, we have been published in multiple national and international magazines together. I am in constant awe of her talent. Pearl Salas – Personal Assistant. Pearl is basically my right and left hand woman. She does everything with me and for me. She travels with me, does photo shoots and fashion shows with me and organizes everything Nails By KR. All I do is show up. She is basically my boss! I wouldn’t be here today without her. I am eternally grateful for what she does and for never making me feel anything but amazing. Thank you ladies, I appreciate you. Nails By KR is what it is today because of you.
