We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristina Bjornson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristina, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I think for me, my success is really a product of the amazing couples that I get the opportunity to work with. Their stories are the inspiration for each and every one of my projects. I think that having having a continuous source of different creative inspiration is what motivates me to stay sharp, and continue to push myself into new territories that allow me to grow and refine my own personal brand and business. I’m always willing to give new things a shot. Even if it means pushing me out of my comfort zone. The challenge allows me to avoid complacency and push boundaries.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am more than just a stationery designer. I am an artist, an illustrator, an architect. I create beautiful things because it’s in my nature. I want to collaborate, be challenged, and go outside the box. Scarlet Gilia Creative is not your ordinary stationery design company because I view every piece that I make as a piece of art. I began SGC over the summer after Graduating from my Masters of Architecture. At the time, many companies weren’t hiring because of COVID and I feared I may not be able to get a job. I began SGC as a way to supplement income incase I couldn’t find a job in the architecture world. Luckily, I was able to get a job at an architecture firm and began my architectural and stationery/design career at the same time. It has been a balancing act but is incredibly fun.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I just bought a house in Athmar Park. So I would begin the visit showing them around my new neighborhood – Chain Reaction Brewing, Stranahan’s, and some delicious food truck tacos or vietnamese food. Then I would head to the mountains for the hike I love to be outdoors and am constantly inspired by nature. Followed by more beer! I love to do new things, I rarely go to the same restaurant or do the same hike twice, so I would likely do something new for both of us to experience for the first time together!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shout out to all the people out there who are committed to their side hustle. The innovators and creators who find joy outside of their 9-5. You are the people who inspired me to do the same. I am an architect by trade – but this affords me a secondary opportunity to create even more beauitful things for the world to enjoy.
