We had the good fortune of connecting with Laci Wright and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Laci, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
I was diagnosed with Stage 3 endometrial cancer in 2017, when my kids were 6 and 8. That year was consumed with various invasive treatments. I hope the most important thing I’ve done to impact my children is that love transcends illness and even death. And it’s okay to be afraid and sad, but not to let fear rule your life. The growth my family experienced during those years was something I value deeply now and am grateful for.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I created One Tribe threads in the middle of my cancer journey with a borrowed hot press machine, my dads 1970 GMC box van, a few trips to Town Council meetings and lots of paint.
I felt strongly compelled to acknowledge the sense of community that embraced me during that journey not only in my hometown but outpourings from all over the world from acquaintances long and far apart.
Last summer I officially handed off the reins to my daughter Lola to run the retail truck and keep the sentiment alive.
I’ve successfully re-engaged in career work after two years off to focus on my cancer treatment and am proud to be the General Manager of a successful Construction General Contractor company.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Crested Butte has become an increasingly popular tourist destination so can’t give away all my secrets but you don’t need to wander far to appreciate the striking views and eccentric locals. In the summer, I love riding the trails all around the valley and then grabbing beer and heading to the river to soak. Turns out our local beer from Irwin Brewing Company is an excellent choice here.
Definitely catch some live music at Public House and an amazing cocktail at Dogwood Cocktail Cabin or Montanyas.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
God. My kids. My husband. My brother. My parents. My girlfriends. My community in Crested Butte.
