We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Eder and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Laura, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
Most people, both in the industry and not, are unaware of the different levels of regulations that are over the CBD industry. Even though the FDA has decided to stay out of the arena other than stating it is a drug as seen by the FDA’s approval of Epidiolex, it does not mean there are no regulations to follow. Each state has their own set of regulations with some much more detailed than others. There are also different regulations in each region of the world and individual countries. There is a lot to take into consideration when manufacturing and selling a CBD product internationally.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Vantage Hemp Co. is one of the only CBD extraction companies that has a quality system and facilities that hold pharmaceutical-level GMP certifications. Vantage is also one of the few companies that will be filing DMFs (Drug Master Files) to the FDA for their CBD ingredients (isolate, distillate, t-free, t-compliant and full spectrum oil).

After an extensive career in pharmaceuticals, I wanted a bit of a change into an emerging industry that I believed had the potential to really help consumers. So I moved over to the CBD industry in 2019. It has been challenging as it is an emerging market that is regulated in a multitude of ways. In the US, CBD is regulated by individual states. In other countries, it is regulated as a food or dietary supplement. In other countries, it is regulated as a drug. When I saw the opening at Vantage, I knew that it would be an opportunity to help legitimize the industry at the pharmaceutical level, and I could not pass up the opportunity.

I have learned to stay nimble, pivoting quickly if needed. Vantage started as a CBD ingredient manufacturing company when I started a year ago and when the market showed the need for white label finished products, Vantage added that to the business model. At Vantage, we ensure the highest quality product is produced according to approved specifications and testing to ensure compliance.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Denver always has something going on. The museums are great and they currently have the Immersive Van Gogh Experience at the Denver Art Museum and Meow Wolf Denver at the Convergence Station. The music scene is also great whether at a small bar, The Filmore or Red Rocks Amphitheatre. I love watching the Denver Broncos, Nuggets, and the Colorado Avalanche and Rapids games. Voodoo Donuts is always a fun place to check out if you have a sweet tooth. There are so many great places to eat that it is hard to list them all. Sam’s No. 3 is a great casual place that reminds me of all the great diners back in Jersey so it is definitely one of my favorite places to eat when in town.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As a woman in a higher management role and one that also owns her own business, I am constantly looking up to and learning from other women. I love reading Brene Brown’s book and use some of her tools both personally and professionally, as well as to help team building. Jamie Lima is another inspirational female leader I follow that tells a story of never giving up on yourself or your dreams. Lastly, I would have to give a huge shoutout to the younger generation of ladies including my two beautiful daughters and all the young women I currently work with or have worked with in the past. They have taught me to expect equality and respect, and that I should settle for nothing less.
