We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Hunter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Laura, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success and the success of Beehold Cakes is first, and foremost, an amazing product(s)! Second is hard, consistent and persistent work. No giving up allowed!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being a creative person has always driven me. I am an interior designer with my own business, so the creative process there is quite obvious. Beehold Cakes is a different form of creativeness, from growing a distinct brand, to baking, and creating delectable goodies. As an entrepreneur, one has to be creative AND willing to work hard. Beehold Cakes has to keep going and changing as needed to meet the community. I have worked hard to grow Beehold Cakes and it is paying off. No, it has not been easy, but I like a challenge and the reward is satisfying. The reward is blessing people with a great product and making their homes look beautiful. Food can be beautiful. It is important to both taste and look good! Beehold Cakes has done that! The reward is getting rave reviews about the cookies and cake that my customer just enjoyed. As well, receiving a text that my clients feel peace in their home with the newfound beauty is a welcome reward. I have learned very much about myself with the two businesses. Hospitality is important to me and it plays a key role in both businesses, Beehold Cakes and LaDeDa Design Company. The way something looks or presents itself is also important to me. Again, branding of a food product and creating a beautiful space happen for both businesses. People have always commented about the differences of my two businesses. I see similarity. They are my art.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A drive to Summit County has to happen! The beauty in the mountains is necessary to see and experience. There are so many good restaurants in Denver and Boulder. For Pizza, we would go to Proto’s Pizzeria Napoletana, hands down, my favorite pizza for the past 17 years. The Ruby Pie is my forever standard with a glass of good red wine, house made Caesar salad and when available, the Pistachio gelato. For a night out in Denver, Ultreia would be wonderful food (foodie food), ambiance and to show the history in Union Station, repurposed. Death and Co. for an amazing cocktail bar and incredible ambiance. I like the full experience of a restaurant with all details accounted for! The Cheese Importers would be another great stop as cheese is my best friend! Anyone that knows me has heard me say that!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have had great support from my customers! As well as the support and encouragement from a few business minded friends, my youngest daughter, Tiana Shupe, has been key to Beehold Cakes, most recently. With her Business Management degree behind her, Beehold Cakes is quickly moving towards a secure future!
