We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Laura, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
A creative career was never my plan.
I worked in real estate, banking, and lending, before starting my photography business. I actually loved those industries, but I left to be a stay-at-home mom in 2010.
Photography had been a lifelong hobby, but it became a much-needed creative outlet for me during the early days of motherhood. It gave me a way to document my own children and family, but it also turned into a way for me to connect with the world outside of my family and create work that I was proud of.
Owning a photography business was never my plan, but I can honestly say that there is nothing else I’d rather be doing. I get to work with incredible people while creating art. What could be better?
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a portrait photographer based in Elbert County, Colorado, but I work throughout the Denver Metro Area. I photograph families, high school seniors, newborns, and couples, and my goal is to provide each client with an easy experience and a fun, relaxed photo session! I provide every client with a mix of gorgeous, well-posed photos, as well as the beautiful, candid, in-between moments. My goal is to create photos that reflect the beauty and nuances that make you…you.
I transformed my lifelong love of photography into a business after the birth of my oldest daughter in 2010. As a new parent, I desperately wanted to pause time and remember everything. Photography evolved into my way of doing that, and now I do the same for others because I believe wholeheartedly in the significance of photos. I know first-hand that every stage matters and they disappear way too fast.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We live in one of the most beautiful places on earth, so I will always recommend soaking it up as much as you can. Colorado is full of gorgeous landscapes and endless small towns with good food and kind people. I don’t think you can go wrong, no matter where you choose to start.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wouldn’t be here without my incredible clients. I want to thank every single person who has hired me over the past 13 years, because I wouldn’t be here without their support. I say it a lot, but it’s the truth: I have THE BEST clients in the world!
