We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Finch and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lauren, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My work life balance has definitely changed after having my daughter! Before having her I worked full time and went to school, but I only had myself to worry about during that time so my work life balance was easier to manage. Now things are a bit different! My daughter definitely takes first priority so scheduling on my end can get complicated at times! Thankfully I have an amazing support system between my husband, parents, and in-laws. This year I decided to only take a limited number of projects, that way I can still be there 110% for my clients while avoiding burn out and still having time for my family. I don’t think I will ever fully master the work life balance since life is constantly changing, but having some set rules, work hours, and time management will definitely make it all a lot smoother! Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think the main thing I want the world to know about my brand and photography in general is that it is SO fun! My goal at the end of every session is for my clients to get in the car afterwards and talk endlessly about how much fun they had. It has been a long and sometimes difficult road with a lot of trial and error crafting my sessions to be the adventurous, fun filled, and effortless sessions they are today. My focus is on candid, intimate, whimsical moments between my clients. I do minimal posing and give more prompts and ‘games’ for my clients to play to bring out those genuine emotions and laughter. If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of my favorite spots (as cliché as it is) is Garden of the Gods. For those who have never visited its truly magical and I feel like I take it for granted some days. If my friend is visiting during the fall I am for sure taking her up to Woodland Park and to walk along some amazing trails through the aspen groves. As for food, we have some amazing family owned businesses here that I cant get enough of! Pig Latin Cochina, Shugas (their outdoor seating is so fun), and if we are out for a coffee date you will find us at Loyal Coffee or Wayfinders! Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband deserves all the shout outs and more! He has supported me and my dreams from the very start. Without him my business wouldn’t be where it is today. He has pushed me when I needed a kick in the butt to get things moving, and he has been patient when I am overwhelmed and doubting myself. My husband is my biggest hype man and I cannot thank him enough! My parents and in-laws also deserve a big shout out for supporting me and always being willing to babysit when I have a shoot or wedding! I am surrounded by some pretty amazing people:)
