We had the good fortune of connecting with Layli Schultz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Layli, how do you think about risk?
I look around today and still can’t believe this is my reality. I work as a nutritionist for professional athletes specializing in weight cuts and performance nutrition. I get to work with MMA fighters from the UFC, Bellator, PFL, LFA, Invicta, and regional promotions across the country. I coach fighters to train and perform at an elite level while preparing their body for an effective, science backed weight cut and reload in preparation for a fight.

Before I started my business, I was working as a special educator in a public school. I had goals outside of teaching that consisted of building a life and business with my husband and creating a life where we could uplift others, raise our family, and build wealth. At the time, it was hard to see the path from where we were to our visions of the future.

I knew I had to start taking actions that were uncomfortable and literally step into the unknown.
My mantra became, BE BOLD. To me, being bold meant being confident, holding a vision of my dreams, and putting myself in uncomfortable situations. Taking risks is literally what transformed my life.

I look back now at that journey. I remember moments of being terrified; sitting in my car outside meetings with potential clients or going into gyms to train with professional athletes. I remember moments of sheer discomfort, being the only woman in the room or attending fights to market myself.

But I continued. One step at a time.

And it worked.

Everything I get to do each day was created entirely by small risks, by being bold, and staying true to the vision.

There was no waiting for the right moment, to have enough money, to look or feel a certain way. It began as I was, doubts and fears, stepping into the unknown.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My business focuses on athletes properly fueling during fight camp through nutrition, recovery, and weight cut preparation. I have dedicated my life to supporting others in enjoying the meals they eat while sustaining energy and meeting individual goals. I love working with athletes because they are focused and disciplined so we see amazing results in every camp. I write meal plans for both athletes and non athletes who are seeking to understand more about their body’s unique needs and how to meet them through foods they love to eat.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love having visitors in Denver. I always take friends and family to Denver Beer Co for games and beers on the patio. Our favorite spots to visit are Olde Town Arvada to walk around, get coffee at Hunter Bay or stop in Scrumptious Ice Cream shop and get dinner at any of the delicious restaurants in town. Golden river walk is always a must and beautiful at every time of year. Of course, a trip to the mountains is required so we go to Red Rocks, Idaho Springs, or Evergreen. We love sharing the great weather, gorgeous scenery, and good vibes of Denver with loved ones.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am where I am today thanks to the endless support and confidence of my husband, Mike Schultz. My goal in life is to be the person that he sees me as. He has helped me build this business by promoting me, doing any small or big task that I need help with, and helps build my confidence through words of reassurance and a broader perspective on the things that worry me. All while building and creating his own business, Sharkk Fitness. He is my best friend, my confidant, and my partner in life and business.
