We had the good fortune of connecting with Lea Flores and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lea, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I took a few risks in my business and none that I regret. Some of the best decisions I made were very risky. Risk-taking is not only an analytical decision but also an emotional one. I feel that you absolutely need to do your research when weighing out all the good and bad in this decision. Make sure that all the numbers make sense, the outcome to be expected, projections, and whatnot. Then, you may have to weigh in on your own emotions, and ask your self is fear making me say no? Fear is a killer of dreams and I believe that risk is absolutely necessary for business growth. It was for mine.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a photographer, mostly known in the world of Boudoir. Boudoir is known as sexy, intimate pictures, usually taken for a loved one. I have really challenged that motive in the industry which in turn has really set us apart. I believe no matter what course in life we are in, we women struggle internally with self-doubt, lack of confidence, feeling safe being transparent, and our authentic self. For me, Boudoir has evolved to more of a self-transforming experience where the pictures are just the icing on the cake. I pride myself on the experiences we give to these women when they walk into our safe, non-judgmental suite. We allow women to fully tell their story, shedding internally to actually feel more confident about themself externally. It’s a process that I believe starts within.
I have been very successful in a craft that is very male-dominated and typically known as a burnout career. After quitting my full-time job in 2017. I was able to scale my business to 6 figures in less than 2 years. I got to this point in my career, only by having to go through the same emotions, self-talk, and discipline that I encourage to the ladies that come and see me. I too had to understand my worth not only personally but also in business. It is absolutely necessary to value yourself first before anyone else can or will value you. Is it easy, no, of course not, and that is why many are not cut out for entrepreneurship. You will truly work more hours for yourself than in any other career, and most of the time without pay or acknowledgment. Entrepreneurship is one of the most rewarding, pain-staking investments that one can take on. I was determined to succeed, however. Making a decision like that takes discipline, sacrifice, commitment, and consistency.
I have learned so many things along the way, but one of the best pieces of advice that I can give to another is, just keep going. Failure is part of the territory, but with each failure, you can learn something if you allow it.
My story is still being written! I have the ability to write a new chapter each day that God gives me. I have a new opportunity awaiting me. We live in a limitless universe. You just have to have faith mixed with action to succeed.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When friends visit, I have them stay at the Southern Valli Ranch Air Bnb in Fountain Colorado first. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/26914188?check_in=2022-04-22&check_out=2022-04-24&guests=1&adults=1&s=67&unique_share_id=a61704f2-630e-4ca2-8fbc-c86ddd99f244
Here they will experience a romantic, or a fun different get away from the city.
Then I would tell them to head on over to Suga’s for lunch or dinner which is located in downtown, Colorado Springs.
I would recommend to shop local at Corina’s Salon and Boutique located in Monument Colorado, where they can find one-of-a-kind apparel, and be immersed in the quaint little town of Monument where they can explore so much more.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
You’re a Badass by Jen Sincero
This book really changed my life. It made me see things in myself and my surroundings very differently. I was able to look at myself from an outsider’s perspective with no judgment. This allowed me to also see others around me with a different perspective as well. This book is amazing and I highly suggest it a must-read for anyone.
