We had the good fortune of connecting with Lee Kupersmith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lee, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
For some unknown reason, I had a sense when I was a young child that I was going to have to have an unusual occupation.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I was a young man of 21 years old when I started. This craft is a long journey of patients, discipline, and paying attention to details. One of the things I am most proud of is that I am part of the long history of violin making and restoration. Being part of the lineage of these wooden creations that have been apart of this world since the 1500’s.
Having met, and worked for some of the best in this profession has been a huge honor. Putting In the time to learn the nuanced details of how these mysterious instruments work, has been a labor of love. Many people throughout the ages have been sucked into the mystery of the violin and its inner workings, Only to be left just as baffled by it from when they started. The violin, (the whole family) in my opinion, is one one of the most amazing gifts humanity has given itself. This beautiful creation has endless possibilities of expression, The incredibly skilled masters who have devoted their lives to play them, the countless hours of practice, the amazing performances are awe striking. I love getting the opportunity to work with all levels of players and helping them get their instrument playing in the best way that it suits them.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
To start, A drive along Horsetooth reservoir is always a thing to see. Poudre canyon is also a worthy trip. If it’s hiking or running, Lory state park has a lot to offer, as well as many other areas here in Ft. Collins. We are very lucky here with seemingly endless miles of trail. Rare Italian is a nice place to get a meal, Social is a fun place to get a drink. JJ’s pizza is pretty perfect, Great people there.. Hiking Horsetooth park is definitely a thing, Getting up on the tooth itself is worth the view. Shout out to Comedy Fort as well..

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to hand it to Dan Hendricks who was my mentor. He had a connection to Bein & Fushi in Chicago.
We did a lot of work for them over the years. I learned a lot about violin restoration through these connections.
