We had the good fortune of connecting with Linda Wayne and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Linda, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Gen Z never heard of the term “work-life balance”. At 18 I left home and made my own path, paid my way thru college and worked my butt off. Thats what we were taught growing up – grind and work hard! I’ve learned as I’ve gotten older how to lean into the “work-life balance” and give myself permission to relax and do more fun things without feeling guilty for “not working”.

I have a new grand baby so I try to see him as much as possible. I hike and take many more slow, deep breaths. By pulling away from work, I’m able to get a better perspective. When our identity is work and performance, and we are so close and tangled to our careers, we fail to see correctly. Pulling away gives much needed perspective. I see things differently standing on a mountain at 11,000 feet taking in the scenery. Work is amazing but it is not life.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is Vibe Medispa – esthetics, wellness & positivity.

What sets Vibe Medispa apart is it is a private, boutique spa with one on one care. So, you see the same professional (me) every visit so you can trust you’ll always receive the highest standard of care. I focus on the patient experience, connection and a positive environment. That’s why I named it “Vibe” Medispa. “Vibe” is a shortened form of “vibration” and often refers to a person’s overall mood or the atmosphere of a place or situation, as perceived by someone. It can also describe a feeling or emotional state that is sensed or understood intuitively. Essentially, when people talk about “vibes,” they are often referring to the energy or atmosphere that they pick up from something or someone. Our lives are so stressful so when a client comes to Vibe, whether it be for a relaxing facial or a liquid facelift, they deserve to decompress and relax. They deserve good vibes and nothing less.

Larger medspas may have more employees, more turnover and different skill levels of practitioners, which can vary the care and experience a client may have. I owned a large medispa in Indiana before selling it and moving to Colorado so I understand the negatives and positives. Building an outstanding team is possible but extremely difficult. I bet you can ask any med spa owner and they will say the most difficult part of their work is managing employees and managing the business aspect. Long hours, expensive training, paperwork, taxes, payroll, equipment, education, marketing, licensing, protocol… all these things somewhat rob owners of their passion, which is esthetics. Owning a medical spa looks glamorous, but its not for the faint of heart. I’m grateful that at this season of my life I can enjoy medical esthetics on a much less intense business level and my focus can be more on patient care than anything else.

This is the same for all business owners – you work for yourself, you’re investing your time and energy for hopeful, long-term gains but some days you recall how much easier it is to be an employee and get to leave work behind at 5:00. Owning your own business is not for the faint of heart but the challenge is also fantastic and so rewarding.

Number one lesson is “half of success is simply showing up” the number two lesson “you can’t lose if you don’t quit”. So, show up everyday with a contagious attitude and don’t let quitting even be an option. Your employees will follow your lead – if your leadership is void of connection, clear direction and positivity, then your employees will never trust or fully engage. The goal is not to have employees, but to build a team.

An employee is in a contractual relationship; a team member embodies a more holistic approach, actively contributing to the collective success of the organization. As a business owner for many, many years, my advice is to build a team, function as a team, make decisions as a team, mentor and encourage as a team… Anyone employee who refuses the team path will pollute the atmosphere and hinder success.

I do what I do because I love it. Everyday is a blessing and my purpose is to bless those who chose Vibe Medispa for beauty and wellness. To make them more radiant both on the outside and inside. I want clients to know me as a highly skilled professional and as an authentic, caring person.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d take my best friend to a Red Rocks concert on a Friday night. We’d have a slow morning – maybe breakfast and lattes in downtown Golden or Idaho Springs, then go hike St. Mary’s glacier and soak up the beauty and surroundings. I feel grateful to live in Genesee so sitting on my deck in awe of the view would be our afternoon. Just resting in the beauty and the breeze waiting for some elk to show up. Cocktails and dinner at the Chart house up the hill would be our day’s ending.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Friends and family members who don’t judge your decisions but instead support where you want to go in your career are the most important. Not everyone will understand your goals and your risky decisions. Those who don’t demand to understand but instead trust and encourage deserve my shoutout.
