Meet Lisa Siciliano | Photograher

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Siciliano and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lisa, how do you think about risk?
My entire life has been an adventure. From relocating to Colorado and pursuing photography, to embracing motherhood—every twist felt like a leap into the unknown. I don’t know if it’s my Sagittarius spirit or simply a stubborn need to forge my own path, but I’d rather embrace a gamble and fall short than sit still and stay comfortable.
My career unfolded one bold move after another. I bought my first camera on a whim from a neighbor, and after capturing only a few concerts with it , I took a chance sent one to the marketing team at Red Rocks. As time goes on, I feel even more compelled to roll the dice and see where they land.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a self-taught, full-time professional photographer, in business for nearly 30 years. I never set out to walk this path. It unfolded organically, one shutter click, one job, one referral, one unexpected opportunity at a time.
I photograph people. All kinds. Weddings, portraits, corporate headshots, events—the usual stuff photographers shoot. And while I enjoy it all, my deepest passion lives in my creative work: concerts and documentary photography, shot exclusively on 35mm film. I still develop every roll myself (with a bit of help from my daughter and husband) in my basement darkroom.
Choosing to remain committed to the slow, deliberate process of analog photography in a world racing toward instant digital gratification has been both my greatest blessing and my toughest challenge. My prints are large, bold, and meant to be experienced up close—displayed in galleries and music venues. As images shrink to thumbnails on screens, I instinctively go in the opposite direction: bigger!!
I also founded the Lumin Project, a documentary series exploring unexpected corners of life and humanity—everything from people in hospice care to little known cultures around the world. . Its tagline, “look, see, think, feel,” I want viewers to notice, to truly see, to reflect, and ultimately to feel something. I don’t want my work to tell them what to think or feel, just to inspire them to do so. Right now, my top focus is securing funding to sustain and expand the Lumin Project. I want to elevate its visibility and depth—not just through images, but through meaningful impact. At the same time, I’m excited to be integrating this project more prominently into my annual Rock & Roll Photo Show, Rocking in a Winter Wonderland, a celebrated Boulder tradition I’ve hosted every December for the past 20 years. This year, Lumin Project will take center stage in the exhibition, presented on a larger and more immersive scale.
My vision is to weave the raw energy of rock with the intimate, human stories of Lumin—making December’s show not just a visual experience, but a profound invitation to look, see, think, feel.
I should also add, I’m also OBSESSED with dogs and photograph them on the street everywhere I go. I plan to make a book of these photos to sell at my upcoming winter show to help fund Lumin Project!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well I actually do have a friend coming to visit for the first time soon!! We will definitely be having breakfast at Dots Diner and The Buff (where I also happen to have an ongoing photo display), lunch at Arabesque and dinner at Ras Kassas Ethiopian Restaurant! We will go hang at the creek for some tube watching, head up to Flagstaff for a paddle at Gross Reservoir, We are hitting a show at Red Rocks and The Mission and will eat at Mio Dio first and scooter to the show! A trip to Rocky Mountain National Park & Grand Lake will also transpire!!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are WAY too many over the last 30 years to mention them all but I can’t leave out my husband Jacques, he ALWAYS has my back & supports my work 1000% And that includes physically by making my frames & mixing my chemicals to dropping off lunch when I poorly planned for a long work day on site. Emotionally by calming my nerves in the very early days & encouraging me to take ever bigger chances in the latter. My parents for giving me my first camera as a gift at 10. It was a canon A1 from Kmart & I loved that it had a self timer. My first dog Mr Miles who inspired my company name, My daughter Isabella for editing for me, rolling my film, even at 3am, stepping in for me on jobs I am not available for & being my favorite model. My son in law Liam for working my art show sales table with the best attitude & biggest smile! There are SOOOOO many other people but if I try & start listing them I know I’ll forget someone & will feel terrible!!
