We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisset Reyes-Campbell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisset, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
My affirmation is: “There is only one life to adventure” which is how I actually came up with my brand name “onelife2adventure”.

It means a lot to me, it helps me to remember that I am a mortal, life is short and we only have one.

So why waste your life doing something that doesn’t make you happy? Why spend time dwelling on your problems and your thoughts instead of doing yourself a favor, getting outside, and exploring mother nature.

Why waste your life working for someone else’s company instead of working on your own project, doing what you love to do.
Why should you be working your entire youth and wait until retirement to be able to have the time to do what you love.

My affirmation reminds me that life is short and has its ups and downs. Making the effort to get outside and adventure in nature whenever possible helps to nourish the soul.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

The purpose of Onelife2aventure is to share Nature adventures with the world and motivate people to go outside, get that vitamin D and heal their soul. You don’t need to be a rich person to go for a walk, nature isn’t expensive and it provides so many benefits.

My inspiration for Onelife2Adventure came after going through a hard time in my life where I was struggling with many health issues.

While being an employee, I was the type of employee who is always going the extra mile, putting too much passion into whatever task I got assigned, willing to work extra, and always seeking to learn new things. I got to the point where I was pushing myself so hard, working extra hours, not eating at work and even having dreams about work. This compromised my health so badly. I was dealing with chronic stomach issues, a lot of stress, as well as anxiety.

I kind of got forced to take a break so I could take care of my health and myself. I used that break to spend as much time as I could in nature and it was worth it. My health improved a lot.

This is what inspired me to share my content with the world. I wanted to motivate people and let them know about Nature’s healing powers. I wanted to share how nature can have such a positive effect on our health.

This is what started me down the path of becoming an entrepreneur. I realized that I could inspire people to get outside by sharing my own adventures.

I want to send this message to those that are dealing with health issues, especially those struggling with mental health issues. I know how difficult it can be to get motivated to go outside when you are down. I know how it feels. I’ve been there myself. I know depression exists and it’s not a joke, I lost a loved one because of it. So I just want to bring a little bit of sunshine to someone’s life with this message and I hope that when they see my photos and videos, they can get motivated to go outdoors to explore nature and clear their mind.

From my own experience I can say and assure that nature heals, you just need to go outside, take a walk and explore. You’ll feel better and you’ll love it!.

The way hasn’t been easy but, “Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations”.

The lessons that I’ve learned along the way is that If you find yourself being so passionate, professional and responsible with whatever task you do at your job, then you should seriously consider a better use of those great skills. Become an entrepreneur and start your own project, with your own schedule and doing something that you love.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Here is a little itinerary for a long week trip in the beautiful town of Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

Day #1

Hike Flash of Gold Trail: A pretty chill hike, you can walk as long as you want. Accessed from the Dry Lake Campground parking lot on buffalo pass. You’ll find a lot of beautiful trails to hike and mountain bike. My favorite is Flash of Gold and if you come during the fall peak leaf season you’ll understand where the trail gets its name from.(bring lunch, snacks, water, sunscreen)

Dinner at Bésame: A latin fusion and global flavors restaurant. It is open all year round from 4pm-10pm. Happy hour from 4;30pm-5;30. Gluten free options. I highly recommend going there for happy hour so you can get 30% off tapas.

-Take an evening walk on the Yampa Valley core trail: A non-motorized trail and has a variety of access points around town, so you can walk from downtown as far as you want. (I recommend parking next to the rodeo and walk from there to The Yampa River Botanic Park, it’s a short walk and it has a beautiful destination)

-Yampa River Botanic Park: A beautiful place to go and wander around, looking at amazing flowers and plants. It’s free and it is next to the Yampa Valley Core Trail, so you can visit it while you are taking a walk. There is also a parking lot next to the Botanic if you’d prefer to drive.

Day #2

Rent a Bike and Explore Emerald mountain: The closest mountain to town where you can explore a lot of mellow hiking and mountain biking trails. The trail network is extensive so the best way to explore emerald is on a bike. (pack lunch, snacks, water, sunscreen)

Dinner at Mambo Italiano: A locals’ favorite pizza spot. Open all year from 4-9pm, Happy hour from 4-5:30pm half price on pizzas. ( I love their pasta entrees. Gluten free options)

Day #3

Stop by Beard & Braid: Great coffee shop to grab a coffee and some baked goods (croissant, muffin, quiche, etc) to eat on the drive to our hike. Open from 7am-2pm

Hike Gilpin Lake: An spectacular hike, about 9.5 miles out and back to the lake where you can enjoy the view of the amazing blue lake. Or you can keep going for a ~13 mile loop called “the Zirkel Circle” which involves going over a pass above the lake where you’ll get an even better view! Bring plenty of water to stay hydrated, sunscreen, pack your lunch and some snacks so you can have extra food in case you need to recover some calories. Also if you are coming around early summer I’d definitely recommend bug spray.

Strawberry Park Natural Hot Springs: Perfect for soaking sore legs. Reservations required, $20 per person cash only. I Highly recommend going after a huge hike so your muscles can relax. If you make your reservation for later in the day, you’ll be able to stay until they close and if the sky is clear, star gaze while soaking.

Day #4 :

A Chill day in town

Breakfast at Creekside Cafe & Grill: Open from 7am-2pm. If visiting during summer, their patio is right next to the river, so you can have breakfast with the relaxing sound of the spring creek.

Visit Inclusions Bakery and Dessert Bar, everything is gluten free, so grab some muffins and take it as your treat for the day activity.

Hanging out in the Yampa River: Take your hammock to the river: (pack a sandwich and some snacks, water, sunscreen, a book to read next to the river)

Visit the off the beaten path bookstore and café: Open from 8am-6pm, a perfect place to go and have a cup of tea or coffee while chatting and catching up on time with your friend.

Day #5

Hike Devils causeway trail: Located in the Flattops Wilderness, this stunning trail takes you up to a small path of stone connecting two peaks. *Warning* this is not for the faint of heart. The trail narrows down to only a foot or two wide at some points, with a drop of hundreds of feet to either side.

Tacos for Dinner: If you are craving some good tacos. I’ll say there are two options: Los Locos, open from 11am=9pm or Taco Cabo, open from 10am-8pm

Day #6

-Madd Creek trail: A locals’ favorite, the Madd Creek trail takes you first along a mountainside through a small canyon and then opens up into a valley where the trail meanders near the Madd Creek. A great option for a shorter and easier going day hike.

-Beau Jo’s Colorado Style Pizza: grab some pizza for dinner (so far they have the best gluten free pizza that I’ve tried).

Day # 7:

Breakfast at Yampa Valley Kitchen: sister of Mambo Italiano. Open from 7:30am-3:00pm. If visiting during summer they have patio options with a beautiful view of the town.

Visit The Fish creek waterfalls: One of the most popular hikes in the Steamboat area. The lower falls are a stunning large waterfall easily accessible from the parking lot, only about 0.5 miles hike down. Alternatively you can extend the hike and go to the upper falls for a longer day out, 2.5 miles one way from the base to the second waterfall. (if thinking of hiking to the second waterfall bring some lunch, snacks, water, sunscreen or if you want to take it easy there are some spots to have lunch at the first waterfall)

Dinner at Laura the Butcher’s MEAT BAR: if you are up for an early dinner this is the place to go. Opens from 10am-4pm from tuesdays-saturdays.

-Notes-

If you are visiting during:

Spring Season: If hiking bring boot traction and make sure to check which trails are open (mod season can be a cause of closed trails)

Summer Season: Check the free concert series, rodeo, camping, tubbing on the river, Morning Yoga at the Botanic Park and the Saturday Farmers Market

-Local Farmers Market: If visiting Between June through September, make sure to include the local farmers market in your plans. It takes place every Saturday from 9am-2pm, you’ll find a lot of fresh vegetables, fruits, baked goods, clothing and a variety of local brands. Steamboat is all about supporting local businesses, so if you have a chance, try to buy local, you’ll notice how nice local people are plus you are supporting the community.

Fall Season: The weather is normally nice for hiking and mountain biking. Also check restaurants for deals during mud season in late fall.

Winter Season: skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing.

Steamboat has a lot of beautiful mountains and trails near it, so there is opportunity for a lot of hikes and mountain biking in the area. In case you are hungry for more hikes I’ll leave you a list down below.

-Flat top Mountain: The tallest mountain in the flat tops wilderness near Yampa, Colorado just south of Steamboat. It’s a ~9.7 miles out and back hike up to 12,500 feet with an amazing view from the top,

-Spring Creek trail: Another locals’ favorite, this trail is popular for both mountain biking and hiking alike, you can access this trail right in town from the east end of Maple street. The trail goes all the way up to the parking lot at Dry Lake Campground on Buffalo Pass, but you can go as far as you like.

-Hahn’s Peak: About an hour to the north, a moderate hike to the top of this 10,774 foot dormant volcano will leave you breathless.

-Rabbit ears mountain: East of the Boat, this short but steep hike provides great views and scenery. Wonderful in the early summer when the wild flowers are in full bloom.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Of course I wouldn’t be where I am right now if it weren’t for my family’s support, my parents are a big part of my life. My Husband, Brian is my big inspiration and motivator. I wouldn’t be a nature lover and an adventure person nor an entrepreneur if it wouldn’t be for him.

He is the one that introduced me to hiking and nature. He took me hiking on our first date and it really worked out for him because I fell in love with him and with nature. Since that moment we’ve been spending most of our free time adventuring in nature.

He has also played a big role in my decision to start my own business. Brian always encouraged me to use my skills and passion to work on my own project (something that I love to do). After hearing that same advice over and over I finally decided to follow his advice and become an entrepreneur just like him.

I am really grateful to Brian for being extremely supportive by mentoring me and helping me understand the ins and out of starting an online business.
