We had the good fortune of connecting with Madhoo Seth and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Madhoo, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was motivated by the desire to exercise my creativity and independence, seeking the freedom to work for myself and the flexibility to spend time with my family when I launched my business back in 2002, and at the time I had two very young children. The idea of being my own boss was a significant driving force.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What truly distinguishes us from other businesses is our unique, multicultural approach to cuisine, offering a worldly experience (or something simple if that is what people like!). Our motto, “We Cook In Your Language,” remains the cornerstone of our restaurant and catering services. We take immense pride in authentically embracing this concept while sometimes also infusing innovative fusion twists, which have garnered us local awards. Our enthusiasm for fresh challenges, whether it’s crafting new menus or undergoing a substantial rebranding (which is happening now!), is boundless. We’re thrilled to announce the upcoming change of our name and other exciting transformations. Our journey to our current business standing has been an organized, 20-year-long endeavor, a testament to the fact that we didn’t achieve overnight success. It has involved relentless hard work and long weeks. As a woman of color and an immigrant, I faced significant hurdles, particularly as a business owner. Overcoming these challenges required taking things one step at a time, fueled by determination and patience. And when it came to physical challenges, I immersed myself in every aspect of catering and the kitchen, even stepping in to wash dishes when necessary.
The lessons I’ve learned, and continue to work on, include prioritizing self-care and the well-being of both body and mind. Planning, processes, and structure have proven to be the keys to our success. I love the saying “Believe in yourself and the world will believe in you”. There are no shortcuts to success.
Our brand and story have a deeper dimension. We value our community, including the environment we inhabit, and actively engage in efforts to make a positive impact. Sustainability and empathy are integral to our ethos, whether it’s through charitable donations, industrial composting, or our commitment to becoming carbon neutral. These may be small steps, but they have a substantial impact on enriching our local community.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Whenever we have friends or family visiting, we consistently make it a point to take them to two special places: the Butterfly Pavilion and Red Rocks. There are so many things to do but these come to mind. Red Rocks is a favorite because there is always something exciting happening there, even if it’s just a scenic hike or a leisurely walk, the natural beauty and serenity of the area never disappoint. It’s a versatile destination that offers something for everyone. On the other hand, the Butterfly Pavilion is a delightful and one-of-a-kind experience that we never get tired of. It’s always a fun and unique adventure, filled with colorful butterflies and fascinating exhibits, making it a must-visit attraction for our guests.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband, Vipul, deserves the utmost credit and appreciation for being my unwavering pillar of support. His progressive and consistent encouragement has been a driving force from the very start. Vipul made the remarkable decision to leave his job and join me in building our business, and together, we have nurtured its growth. During the earlier stages when I had to handle the business, even late into the night, Vipul was an invaluable partner, taking care of our children after completing his own work shift.
