Meet Maria Fraietta | Founder & CEO

We had the good fortune of connecting with Maria Fraietta and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maria, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The Nokbox solves a real problem that many find difficult to solve on their own, and especially during an emotional time. We didn’t always need a full “kit” to manage our lives, but with lots of online accounts, papers to manage, and busy lives to run, it’s important these days to have a roadmap or an “index” to your life and home. It’s helpful for you now, and your next of kin later. After experiencing a family loss, I saw firsthand how chaotic and overwhelming it can be to manage a loved one’s affairs. I looked at my own life and realized “who could run this show without me?” I realized it wasn’t just me who needed a tool to organize: it was almost all of us.
I decided to write the “instruction manual” for home and life, and it included everything from how to handle your spare keys to sorting out your pin numbers to matching accounts and passwords to remembering the details of taking care of your pet. Then, I added a second set of directions for the next of kin: what would they need to find, manage, and organize? It’s all in the kit. I started assembling these kits in my backyard shed, and over the past 4 years, grew the business to where it is now, selling millions of dollars of Nokboxes every single month.
Our success was propelled by having a product that people need, and then having a team of us to produce it, to promote it, and to support our customers. Our team is made up of family and friends, most of whom do not have supply chain, marketing or customer service experience (I sure didn’t!), but we learned together and built a business from scratch. Maybe not knowing the “rules” or normal “procedures” is what helped us become an honest, real company that customers can relate to and want to support.
I love helping people have organization and peace of mind. “Leave memories, not a mess” is a call to live responsibly, love intentionally, and prepare wisely.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The idea for The Nokbox was born not in a boardroom, but around a kitchen table in the midst of grief. In 2021, I found myself facing the overwhelming task of managing my late father’s estate. Alongside my brothers, I traveled to upstate New York following his passing, only to be met with the sobering realization that we had no roadmap for what came next.
From planning a funeral and writing an obituary to notifying loved ones and navigating probate court, our family was plunged into a crash course in estate settlement. While my father had thankfully left a will, I quickly discovered that this document was just the beginning. The real challenge lay in locating and accessing the full breadth of his affairs—bank accounts, investments, physical assets, and even passwords.
What followed was a multi-week scavenger hunt across paper trails and digital footprints. We sifted through laptops, cardboard boxes, drawers, and closets, piecing together our father’s financial and personal life one document at a time. We relied on tips from friends and county clerks, tracked down property across multiple states, and tried to decode a mountain of information—often without the keys or context they needed.
In an effort to bring order to the chaos, I bought a simple office box to collect everything: important papers, keys, cards, and documents. As I created checklists and categorized our findings, a new system began to take shape—one designed not just for storage, but for guidance.
That helpful box became the first-ever Nokbox.
What started as a personal solution quickly revealed itself as a universal need. I realized that no family should have to go through such a disorganized, emotionally exhausting experience in the wake of loss. The Nokbox was created to spare others from that hardship—providing an organized, proactive way for people to prepare their personal affairs in advance and offer clarity and peace of mind to those left behind.
Today, The Nokbox empowers families everywhere to plan ahead with confidence, so that when the time comes, their loved ones don’t have to search for answers—they simply open the box.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One “tried and true” visitor activity: drive to Breckenridge the back way. They are always enamored by the scenery and get a taste of mountain life. In Denver, there’s nothing like a great brewery, a trip to Coors Field, or happy hour at the latest patio. And, I love introducing people to Downtown Littleton!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Littleton Nourish Meals on Wheels and their team of staff and volunteers inspires me. They work diligently and their mission serves our community with basic needs, nourishment and connection. Nokbox donates regularly to their cause and we connect with Nancy Falk, the Executive Director on an ongoing basis. Her passion is infectious and Nourish has been an impressive reflection of that positivity that ripples through the community.
