We had the good fortune of connecting with Mario & Kelly Crobu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mario & Kelly, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
We got the idea for our business straight from Italy! Mario, who is from Sardegna, grew up cooking with family and learning their recipes and techniques for classic dishes like Lasagna and Handmade Ravioli. Since these types of meals are generally pretty labor intensive and time consuming, it is super common to spend a whole day prepping and then either sharing with friends and family, or freezing for future meals. We took this concept and built upon it, learning other techniques and coming up with recipes of our own. Our food is better than restaurant quality, closer to truly “homemade”, absolutely authentic, and can be enjoyed without leaving the house!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Mario and Kelly met in New York City, while working together at an Italian restaurant in Tribeca. Between the two of them, they have over 30 years of combined experience in over 15 different restaurants, 7 different cities, and 5 different countries, They quickly found a shared passion for hospitality, good food, travel, and, of course wine!, and, most importantly, sharing these things with others.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Now that we have a family, our social habits have changed a little since life in NYC! One thing we love about Denver is having the outdoors so easily accessible. We love getting out for hikes together when we get the chance, usually around Golden or Morrison area, or going for a bike ride around one of the many lakes in our neighborhood. Ending at a brewery is always fun too, making sure to have a game of Uno in hand to keep the kids entertained!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We would love to give credit to Mario’s father, Franco! After the death of his wife, he had to teach himself how to cook and take care of the boys (Mario and his brother Gianfranco, who is also a part of our team). His Spinach & Ricotta Ravioli is one of our menu staples, and we spent many hours working with him to learn his secrets.
