We had the good fortune of connecting with Martha Wirth and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Martha, why did you pursue a creative career?
My life has always leant itself to being artistic and creative. I was a little kid who grew up on movies and musicals from the 1940’s. I played dress up in my attic in a makeshift vaudeville dressing room, complete with an old steamer trunk, vintage clothes, and costume jewelry. I created and entered a plethora of items for the county and state fairs. I loved doing mixed media art and teaching it to others. When I started dancing at an early age that became a magical outlet in so many ways. I not only danced but I then started teaching and choreographing. Choreography opened up a whole new world for me to be creative and tell stories through that creativity. Over the years my body didn’t hold up so well and eventually, after being in the dance world for 30 years I retired from teaching. At this point I had already been experimenting with my camera and dancers for a couple of years and I naturally decided that moving in that direction more consistently would not only be the next creative chapter of my life but also combine my love of dance and artistry into another medium, photography. Turning that page in my life has led to meeting amazing people, developing friendships and  opportunities I never imagined. I have to create, it feeds my soul and then I get to share my soul with others.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I like to think that my photographs are moments captured in time, as if you could push play and it would resume right where it stopped. I have plugged away since I started my business in 2018 and worked hard to never stop learning and to never be afraid to push my limits and experiment. There were definitely moments where I thought that I couldn’t keep going but then God would send validation in a  way that I needed at the time. It isn’t always easy but keeping the focus of what I want to give with my business, is something I have to keep reminding myself of. What is that, you may ask? Helping people see themselves as I see them through my lens, giving them an opportunity to create, and providing affordable high quality images.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am not really a big city person, I like quiet and calm. So, I would go to my favorite tea place English Tealeaves in Parker and have their apple chees melt with turkey. Hopefully, they will have their lobster bisque on the menu that day as well. My best friend and I would talk for hours over tea and food. Then we might stop by Goodwill and do some shopping therapy, because it’s affordable and therefore pretty guilt free. We might even do an impromptu phone photo shoot wherever we can find a cool spot.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate this to my dad. He was an amateur photographer most of his life. As a young man he photographed with film and played with creative ways to develop that film, bringing to life the stories he wanted to tell through his lens. When I became interested in photography as an adult he taught be about intersecting lines, looking for texture, rule of thirds and so much more. He was patient when some of the lessons didn’t stick, like the ones about F-stops and aperture and always was willing to explain it all over again every time I asked. As my business grew he has continued to supported, encouraged, critiqued and believed in me. My dad planted a seed and he has been there all along the way to help it grow.
