We had the good fortune of connecting with Scott Bolte and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Scott, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Foco, Bike Mob’s unique and inclusive approach to community engagement has cemented its place in Fort Collins by organizing dress-up-group bike rides. The organization taps into the universal joy of self-expression and creativity, fostering a sense of camaraderie among riders. The emphasis on themed group rides and dressing up adds an element of fun and whimsy to the biking experience, attracting a diverse range of individuals who may not be avid cyclists but are drawn to the festive and lighthearted atmosphere.
Additionally, Foco Bike Mob’s commitment to building a tight-knit community is evident in its strategic event planning, fostering social connections and creating a sense of belonging as well as working with other local-non-profits to raise awareness for action items that promote the greater health of its community and inclusivity of all people.. Through these initiatives, Foco Bike Mob has successfully transformed traditional biking into a social and cultural phenomenon, making it more accessible and appealing to a broader audience.
Yes, we coordinate bike events, but that’s not the whole picture. Our goal is to do our part in making Fort Collins the most prominent cycling city in the US by holding space for people have fun riding bikes with one another. The more people on bikes, the more influential our agenda becomes. Simple.
Our core principals are: Radical inclusion, self expression, participation and activism.
What should our readers know about your business?
FoCo Bike Mob started as a group of three friends who simply enjoyed utilizing one of Fort Collins greatest assets, its bike trails. We quickly discovered that by incorporating music and more people into our casual rides around town that the fun we could have increased exponentially. The group grew organically into what it is today and now Foco Bike Mob has been consistent sponsors for events such as the Fort Collins Bike Prom, the annual Bicycle Pride Parade, and the Annual Spooky Halloween Bike Parade. Foco Bike Mob shows up to support other local events such as Bike To Work Day, FoCo Fondo, FC Bikes, and is an advocate in the project for helping Fort Collins acquired its very own bicycle park. This initiative does take leadership, however, it is a community initiative that follows the desires and needs of its participants. We hope to curate a space that fills a real need in the Fort Collins community, right now we believe that space is primarily used to support people looking for a creative outlet, the LGBTQ, community, and people looking to make friends.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would tell my friend that living in Fort Collins is a little bit like living at summer camp. Baking friends is easy we have heaps of activities to enjoy and so much fun to be had in the outdoors right outside or doorstep. Send highlights include paddle boarding horse to Reservoir, riding the bike trails along the Puter river, finding local music to enjoy and going to an event at the Lyric.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My name is Scott Bolte and I am the owner of the Tandem Real Estate brokerage in Fort Collins as well as the creative Director of FoCo Bike Mob. I am a local bicycle advocate and have branded both my professional and personal life in alignment with pursuing activities that build community, particularly through getting people outside of their cars and onto trails where they can be closer to their fellow neighbors. My real estate group financially supports a number of other local nonprofit bicycle groups in Fort Collins and it has given me the time and freedom to create a cycling group that is dedicated to providing people with a space where they can show up in a fun, authentic way as they built community with one another.
