We had the good fortune of connecting with Matthew Crowe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Matthew, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have always wanted to own my own business from a young age. When I was in high school a friend and I had a mobile detailing business. We didnt make much, but it was fun and we were 16. Fast forward to my college years – I got hired out of Purdue with some large players in the Mechanical Contracting industry here in Denver. I spent time working on hospitals, hospitality/lodging in the mountains, data centers, power plants and much more. I loved what I did but was always chomping at the bit to get ahold of my own company. In early 2015 I connected with Tim Ketsdever the owner/founder of Vectra. He was looking to retire and we struck a cord with my background to date in the industry. Since then, we have grown the company 4x the size and have a residential division to accompany the commercial services we offer.
What should our readers know about your business?
Vectra Mechanical currently provides light commercial and residential hvac services including, but not limited to; maintenance, service and replacement/retrofit. Our background with commercial services allows us to take a more detailed approach for our residential customers that seek higher level services. Of course we can replace that furnace and air conditioner, but we are also here to solve other problems our customers may have. Vectra is based upon a foundation of knowledge and we train our employees constantly to ensure we are providing our customers with not only top quality work, but a quality experience. When I took over Vectra we were running it out of the spare bedroom in our house and I used our side yard as a lay down area with one technician and a helper. We used to have our daily meetings out on the street in front of the house at 6am – I hope my neighbors did not mind! We not have an office/shop location in Golden and have 13 employees and growing. We have expanded from the maintenance only company to a mechanical who does furnaces, ac, indoor air quality, rooftop units and a ton of boiler work. In 2020 we hired some boiler specific technicians and installers and pride ourselves on putting out some quality work. It has not been easy to say the least – we have learned a lot in the last 5 years, however having a team who is dedicated to getting better every day definitely helps out. Vectra wants our customers to know we are here for your residential or commercial hvac needs big or small!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My wife and I love to hit up the highlands area for some good eats. A few of our favorites are Lola, Tacos/Tequilla/Whiskey as well as finding the hole in the wall joints. After some food we like to take our friends around to various spots around town like the arcade bars etc… Or if weather permits we go to places like Matthews/winters park, redocks and dinosaur ridge as they are super close to our house. When concerts are going redrocks shows you can never go wrong with. If we have time – visiting mountain towns is definitely top on the list. We spend a lot of time in Grand County which opens up a whole other avenue of fun spots. Considering we have kids, you also definitely can not go wrong with the zoo in the springs – my son Walker loves the Giraffes right when you walk in!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shout out goes to my family! My family has long supported my cray ideas and different avenues I have taken in life. A support system is definitely required when you decide to go into business for yourself. The biggest shoutout I have is to my wife Marnie. She has supported me through our entire marriage with Vectra. Currently, she also works full time assisting us in many different aspects of the business. Without Marnie, we wouldn’t be where we are today.
