Meet Melissa Schroeder | Wedding & Portrait Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Schroeder and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melissa, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Growing up, one of my favorite memories was pulling the photo albums down and looking through them with my sister. We would look back on my parents’ wedding day, family gatherings, birthday parties, and other family memories. We loved listening to the stories surrounding those photos and I’m pretty sure there’s even a picture of us looking at the albums somewhere! It made me realize just how important photos are to freeze a moment in time and truly tell a story. I wanted to be able to do just that for people – provide a memory to treasure for generations and tell a story with my work. I’m so grateful that it’s my job to provide those memories for my clients!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I provide a wide range of photography services – from weddings and engagements to branding and senior photography, I love capturing the important moments in life with true, genuine emotion. You’ll find no cheesy poses here, and some my favorite photos of my clients are the moments right after they think I put the camera down and they truly relax. I think that’s what sets me apart from others and how I’ve been able to enjoy success doing what I do – I put a heavy emphasis on client experience and getting to know the lovely people I have the honor of working with. Along the way, I’ve also learned that many people don’t love being in front of the camera, and it’s my job to ease that tension and make the experience enjoyable for them, which is why my clients’ experience with MSP is so important to me.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh, what a fun question! First up would be a drink so we’d head to RiNo to have some wine at Infinite Monkey Theorem and a cocktail at Bar Helix. We’d definitely want to get outside, so a hike around Red Rocks would be awesome and then a quick stop at Bob’s Atomic Burgers in Golden for burgers. Or maybe Woody’s for pizza – that’d have to be a game time decision. They’re both so awesome. Tarantula Bar for a couple games of pool would be perfect and hopefully it’s during baseball season so we can catch a Rockies game! To end the trip, we’d probably venture out into the mountains for a couple days of true R&R – taking a pit stop at the hot springs and also pausing at all the perfect mountain lookout spots for, what else, photos together!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
To begin, I want to thank my wonderful fiancé, Rob, my family and close friends. Together, they are my biggest supporters and without them, there’s no way I would’ve taken the leap and built my business. I’d also like to give a shoutout to the photography community here in Denver. As you can imagine, photography is quite the competitive business, but the photographers here in Denver are the most supportive, encouraging and kind people. There’s a phrase that is sometimes tossed around…”community over competition” and I’m so glad that’s the way it is here in this city. From an education perspective, I chose my first cameras due to Jared Polin’s videos on YouTube and have also learned so much from Katelyn James’ courses on lighting and posing. Finally, a shoutout to my clients – both past and future. Thank you for trusting me and for allowing me into your life to capture your special moments!
