We had the good fortune of connecting with Meredith Hintze and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Meredith, what matters most to you?
Two values that are truly foundational to me both personally and professionally are integrity and authenticity. These are values that were instilled in me at a young age and are values that I now work to teach to my own children. Increasingly, as our world becomes noisier, filled with so many divisive opinions and personalities, it feels more important than ever to be centered around principles and values that are focused on what is true, what is real and what is right.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Throughout my career I have focused on facilitating systemic change through strategic partnerships, innovative thinking, program design and a results-based approach. Starting out in an entry level position at a small Denver nonprofit and then, evolving and growing through different roles and levels of responsibility helped me truly understand the ins and outs of the inner workings of nonprofit organizations. This journey was incredibly valuable when I stepped in the role of nonprofit Executive Director in 2016 and continues to inform my work as I support and partner with nonprofit organizations as a leader in corporate social responsibility and corporate philanthropy.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Living in northeast Denver, there are a lot of wonderful places to visit right in my backyard. I’d recommend checking out the Stanley Marketplace for sure, including coffee at Logan Coffee house, getting a manicure at Base Coat Nail Salon followed by dinner at Annette. Must visits on this side of town also obviously include Denver’s wonderful Museum of Nature and Science and the Zoo. To anyone visiting the Denver Metro area, I also always have to recommended at least a day trip (but better yet, a night or two in Breckenridge, CO). Breck has a special place in my heart as it was the place where I got married. It’s beautiful with tons to do and see every month of the year. But, outside of skiing in the winter time, one of my favorite times to head up and visit is to attend Breckenridge Oktoberfest on Main Street. It’s a blast!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As an undergrad at the University of Southern California, I had the opportunity to take a course on leadership that has shaped my life since. As a part of the course, we read “On Becoming A Leader” written by one of the course instructors, the late, great leadership guru Dr. Warren Bennis. One of the key themes of his book is the idea that many great leaders go through a “Crucible” experience that shapes them and their approach to leadership. For me, this framing of life’s hardships and challenges as opportunities for growth was incredibly impactful.
