Meet Mia Cheung | Pet Caretaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mia Cheung and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mia, what makes you happy? Why?
When I first wake up and get to snuggle with a dog or cat. I love taking a few minutes to lie around and hug them. It calms my mind and gets me excited for my day.
What should our readers know about your business?
My business wouldn’t have grown as much as it has in its first year without my clients. I have to thank my clients, because they are truly the best marketing I can ask for. I have so many wonderful clients referring me to their friends or neighbors, and it means so much to me.
As crazy as it sounds for a pet sitter not to have her own pet, I don’t, and I think that is a selling point to owners who have a dog who does best in a one-pet household. I want to let more clients know that you can board your dog with me, and we’ll have a great time together snuggled on the couch or out on a walk.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hands down, I would take them to Ototo on South Pearl for Japanese food and Uncle near Wash Park for the best ramen. Ototo has mochi wrapped in crispy bacon and tuna that I dream about. Then we would go to William & Graham for drinks and dessert. They are known for their incredible cocktails- which they are- but I go for the brownies. It’s the perfect way to end the night, or start it, if you’re like me and enjoy dessert first! I also enjoy going down to Garden of the Gods with friends visiting from out of town, because there are great views without too much hiking, especially if the out-of-towners are not used to the elevation change.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are a few friends that I want to thank, who helped me by listening, providing guidance, and answering my questions when I thought about turning pet care into my full-time job. Rachel, Otisa, and Liz: thank you for your support in helping and pushing me to create Denver Pet Pals. I’ve talked about it for over a year before making my dream come true. Otisa and Liz, thank you for answering so many questions about being a business owner and sharing your wisdom learned throughout your years. Rachel, thank you for your patience even when a dog is barking in the middle of the night. I also want to say thank you to Amber and Aisha for our little pet care community. I love that I have you to ask specific pet care questions.
