We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael & Kandace Cruz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michael & Kandace, how does your business help the community?
We strive to invite people into our farm and homestead. Our greatest goals are to educate people on caring for animals. Rescuing mini donkeys. We love to help people understand the undertaking of a farmer in order to feed folks. We take on children in crisis to mentor thru the farm to get them back on track and have a sense pride in themselves. Teaching people how to homestead and feed themselves. Showing people how to homestead and be profitable. Providing an assortment of animals for building homesteads, farms, and petting zoos. And last but not least putting amazing products on their table, directly from the farm.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Farming and homesteading are the hardest yet most rewarding jobs on the planet. I’ve been doing it my whole life and now I’m able to continue into my later years helping others find a way to farm and Homestead as well. I’ve always thought that if it was easy it wouldn’t be worth it. And if farming and homesteading was easy, everybody would wanna be me. God has asked us to do things that we never thought possible. We’d want to continue to be good stewards of the land, animals and people that God has entrusted us with, while continuing to be a service to the community. The best part is feeding people something you had a part in creating, that’s where the farm comes full circle. We pray that we will forever be able to feed, mentor, and give to our community. If you’re not different, you’re just like everyone else, that’s just simply why we are here, is to be boldly different.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We might jump into town for a quick bite at either of the fantastic Mexican restaurants, either Don Juan’s or Riggo’s. Then we would come back to the farm and spend our time here because everyone that comes wants to immerse themselves in our farm life and they help feed the livestock help move feed help take care of the animals. They get home-cooked meals and they’d rather just be here for the time that they come to spend.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
So our shout out would definitely have to start out with the massive gratitude we have for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, which, without we could do none of these . I’d like to then shout out to my husband, Michael, without his tireless efforts none of this would be possible, our farm manager, Brady Gordon we couldn’t advance in our pursuit of making this farm evolve without him. The Cardenas family, The Ewals-Strain family for all their volunteer hours. As well as our animal transport, Greg Trimble, our coach Headley Oliver III, our tech & support folks Melissa VonMusser, Amy & Jeremy Martin, Beverly Gonzales, just to name a few. Our children and grandchildren for helping make this happen. Our shoutout would also have to encompass all of those that believe in our mission. That buy our Wagyu beef, purchase our livestock and trust us to guide them in their quest to homestead, and all the parents that trust us with their children.
