We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michael, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
The beauty industry has endless career opportunities besides working behind the chair at a salon or barbershop. You can work in the world of editorial. Work in the world of social media. Work in the world of management/business. Work in the world of education. You can really decide what it is you are best at and build an empire out of it!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Having 3 career titles is a lot of work, and while all are different in their own ways…they all come back to art and beauty. The lessons I’ve learned along the way; is you can do anything in this world if you work for it! The amount of motivation and determination you put, is always the outcome you will receive! It was not an easy journey, but I will always try to turn a negative experience, into a positive outcome! I want the world to know everyone deserves to be included and have equal opportunity, never feel less than another!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am born and raised in Colorado! I absolutely love my state! I love culture, small local shops and people! I love to visit a new store in Denver or Boulder! I’ve been able to enjoy more areas of Colorado recently, while visiting Centre Salons Colorado locations! So many more local restaurants and shops upcoming in Denver, it’s amazing! The Plant Garage is one of my current favorites!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The AVEDA network deserves credit in my life. They have supported me and helped me grow in countless amount of ways. The beauty company, Aveda, really stands for environmental leadership and responsibility. I started my education with Aveda in 2014, and haven’t left yet. (never plan to!) Now teaching for Aveda, it’s an amazing full circle moment!
