We had the good fortune of connecting with Misha -Immortal Monstera and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Misha, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think risk is required to grow and evolve. I think that the only way to really live life to the fullest is to take a risk. If you never try something you could fail at, you’ll never try something new at all. Risk has always been a big part of my life. I’m not very conventional, and prefer to go to the beat of my own drum. It’s allowed to me live a life that’s full, and weird, and magical and wonderful. I’m greatful that I get to take risks, and if I fail at least I learned something.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve always loved making a lot of different kinds of art, but never intended on doing it full time. My education and college degree is in Animal Science and it’s application in Veterinary Medicine. I worked as a CVT for several years, where I learned alot anatomy, and fell in love with xrays and bones. Working with animals was an incredible part of my life, but it was hard on my body and mental health, so I left that career. Besides working with animals, the only other thing I’m extremely passionate about is art. That’s probably why so much of my art involves skeletons now. I love being able to share the beauty I see in skeletons, plants and crystals. I love being able to connect to people and make them feel emotion when they see my pieces. I think the biggest thing I’ve learned along the way is to never give up, and that there is beauty and light in everything, even things most people wouldn’t think of as being beautiful.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a Denver native, so I was born and raised here.
First I would take them to the Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keensburg. I think it’s a really unique place and I love that there’s so much space for the animals to explore.
Then we would go on up to Boulder and have lunch at the The Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse, because I think its one of the most beautiful and intricate buildings I’ve seen.
I would also want to take them down to the Colorado Springs, and go explore the caves and hot springs. Hike around Garden of the God’s, and then go up to Breckenridge and sky watch.
Also gotta go back to Denver for the monthly art walk.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give recognition my fiancé, Chris, and my mom. I’ve been artistic on and off my entire life, and my mom has always supported me making art. She is who supported my initial interest as a kid. And my fiancé is who supported me doing art full time, and to really put my whole heart into it. I wouldn’t have been able to chase this dream without either of them. Also shoutout to Colleen at Danu’s Wardrobe who has always been my biggest support both online and at vending in local events.
