We had the good fortune of connecting with Misty Burns and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Misty, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Instead of viewing work/life as a balance, I’ve thought about this in terms of “blend”. To me, the word “balance” infers somehow having to be “equal”, when indeed, what gives us satisfaction and gratification as humans is so personal and at times, anything but “equal”. Over the years, and throughout my career, I’ve been much more honest and realistic about what matters most, what fills my energy tank – and have committed to doing things that indeed fill the tank. Fortunately, I’ve found a path that fulfills both a professional journey and personal aspiration.
What should our readers know about your business?
I’ve always had a deeply rooted desire to help others on an individual level. Although the first 22 years of my career have been in service of organizations and companies, I had an epiphany at a yoga retreat in 2018 that the way I could contribute most to this world is to work with others on a one to one basis, in service of themselves, vs in service of organizations. True health and vitality in families, communities, and companies start with well-being at the individual level. Starting to explore this (especially in the face of a pandemic) has not been easy, but I am 100% committed to my path forward. It isn’t necessarily an either/or, it’s definitely an “and”.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is a tough questions because it really depends on the friend, and what we vibe on. For the most part, I think any of my closest friends would enjoy a week in Vail, where we’d spend the days hiking and exploring nature followed by very rewarding culinary experiences along with great libations. And, a visit or two to local spas would be a must in the experience!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have a tremendous support network of family, friends and professional colleagues. I’d love to give a shout my parents, my closest friends, and my professional network that have fully supported both my HR career and my entrepreneurial spirit!
