We had the good fortune of connecting with Nate Dunn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nate, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
In my life Ive tried different career opportunities and seemed to succeed in reaching positions of management or training leaders in most of them. I’ve also been creative so I decided to try and combine the two and make myself money rather than someone else.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve always been into all kinds and styles of art. I’ve tried lots of styles and fell in love with abstract art. It gives me the freedom to try new things.

That’s one of the things that sets me apart. The ability to do things that others won’t try has created some very creative pieces that you won’t see anywhere else.

I love painting and sculpting and have been resin casting for a few years now. I’ve also been doing a lot more digital art lately. I love having the freedom to express myself in multiple platforms.

I have a lot of friends who are artist that I respect and look up to in the art world. I’m lucky enough to call one of my favorite artist one of my best friends. When he started to really eye and admire my work it made me much more confident as an artist and I couldn’t help but be proud when my art was prominently displayed in his collection.

Every artist is also their biggest critic so I was hesitant to show my creations to many people. I was afraid to set up at any shows but I pushed myself to overcome by remembering that if I like it , at least some other people will too. Once I started setting up and getting more people looking I saw that more people could be interested than I thought.

The more shows and markets I set up at the easier it was to see what people liked and it also created new styles by trying new things that people thought would be cool and making customs.

I named my company Dante’s Toy Box because I make so many fun and different things that are colorful and some glow in the dark or have lights. Everything I make is a little different so it’s fun for collectors or gifts.

One of my favorite things is seeing the joy in someone’s eyes when they find a piece of mine that they connect with. That’s one of the reasons I love art drops. Having a stranger like something I’ve made enough take it home and reach out and start their own collection is awesome

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I don’t live far from Red Rocks so thats always a stop. Other than that we have so many great venues and bars but I really do prefer staying in , listening to music, cooking and smoking with small groups that love to converse about love ,life and arts of all types

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Mr mars is a great friend and mentor in the art world and I am part of an art collective called Denver Independent Artists Showcase or D.I.A.S. with many talents such as Chingon Pins ,Flanagan’s Creations The pins plug , The vampdevillle and so many other talents
