We’ve connected with Niamh Bergeron of Sweetie Pie Weddings
Hi Niamh, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have loved weddings for as long as I can remember. I made the first steps towards starting a wedding planning business about ten years ago, when I completed a certification program and had the opportunity to coordinate weddings for several friends. I loved both the organizational as well as the creative side of planning, and the opportunity to help facilitate a truly memorable day for a couple. But, I did not feel ready to leave the security my long-term job, which I also loved. I returned to the world of weddings four years ago with a part-time stylist position at Encore Bridal. I just love interacting with the brides! Recently, one of my past brides reached out to me, and connected me with a friend of hers seeking a wedding planner. This opportunity and the trust this couple put into me, my skills and my passion jump-started my current foray back into wedding planning. Opportunities to plan other weddings followed, and the time just seemed right to take things further with starting my own business and pursuing my long-term passion for wedding planning. It is one passion that has stuck with me non-stop for so many years, and a job that I would do for free if I could! I’m so grateful to the couples who have given me opportunities to embrace the career that I feel drawn to so strongly.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
This is a tough question! I do consider myself to be a professional but also a creative. One reason I wanted to focus upon wedding planning is that I have seen so many couples lose the joy of getting married during the stress of the planning process. They often end up exhausted and wanting the wedding to be over, which is so sad! My motto is joyful, enthusiastic and professional. Every wedding planner has a unique personality and approach to reach the end goal of a wonderful and seamless wedding for their couples. I feel that my personal journey makes me extra compassionate and hard-working. I am a certified wedding planner twice over, both ten years ago and very recently through The Bridal Society, which shows my commitment to professionalism and constant learning. My goal is always to be a partner with other vendors. By acting as a team of professionals working towards one goal we get the best results! Finally, my genuine enthusiasm is continuous throughout the planning process.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love getting out into nature like most of us that live in Fort Collins! We’d drive up to Estes and go to Kind Coffee and The Stanley for sure. Going for a hike at Horsetooth with my puppy and looking for wildlife would be so beautiful and fun for them. Dinner at Cafe Mexicali would be the best yummy end to the day.
During the rest of the week, we’d walk downtown and get buckwheat financiers at Little Bird Bakery (they are the best) and then walk around the shops and find cool souvenirs and stickers. We’d stop by The Cupboard to buy some cool tea towels. I’d take them to the ranch where I volunteer so they could pet the horses and feed them treats. Going to Meow Wolf in Denver would definitely be on the itinerary. I would cook dinner at our house, probably chicken parmesan, and do a movie marathon by the fire. Walks by the Poudre River and maybe a movie at the Lyric would be so unique and fun, too.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Where I am in life is completely due to the support of my family, friends and others who have given me new chances after some tougher times in my life. My husband has so much patience and continues to be such a great sounding board and gives me caring feedback that I might need to hear (even if I don’t want to!). My family is amazing and so loving and enthusiastic and just always there for me. My friends make me laugh and give the best advice and perspective, and they get me out of my own head when I need a break. My mom in particular has always been an example of integrity, service to others and spirituality.
