We had the good fortune of connecting with Nickie Frye and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nickie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I actually started this business by accident. After my daughter was born, I left my career in corporate retail to be a stay-at-home mom & I decided to sell some vintage clothes online I had in my closet. They sold right away & I had $250, so I reinvested that money into more vintage. My first business goal was just to be able to afford to pay for diapers. The business grew slowly out of my apartment, then out of an office, then out of a warehouse, & now I have a storefront on the main street in Colorado Springs!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Good Eye is a specialty boutique in downtown Colorado Springs offering a curated mix of vintage & new. We are always on the hunt for special vintage pieces & new, artisan brands that fit our boho lifestyle. One of the most exciting things about Good Eye is there’s always something new to discover. We buy limited quantities & keep the assortment fresh for our regulars. The road to where we are now has been long, with lots of ups & downs along the way. Having an untiring passion for vintage & fashion is what has kept us going through the challenges. As a business owner, I’ve learned a lot of things but patience is the ongoing lesson for me, & trusting my instincts.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For a consistently good dining experience with a view, I rely on Grand View. For excellent food & wine pairings, I recommend The Carter Payne. For live music, LuLu’s Downtown always has something cool going on. The Thursday night Drum Circle in Manitou Springs is a good vibe. Wednesday night live music at Hillside Gardens is a must. For coffee, I recommend our neighbors at Stir Downtown. Of course, you can’t skip the Garden of the Gods. A drive through Cheyenne Canyon, if not a hike on one of the many trails, is another must. Colorado Springs is growing so quickly, it’s hard to create a list!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family, & especially my husband, have been tireless supporters of my business. They have encouraged me, built things, carried things, painted things, travelled with me, brainstormed, cried, laughed, & taken risks with me. I am forever grateful.
