We had the good fortune of connecting with Nina Geoffroy-Suppes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nina, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
We both had a vision of creating a community health system that puts health back in the hands of the community. As someone with fibromyalgia, I (Nina) have always struggled to find the support I wanted in health care. I have met many people who feel the same, as though their providers don’t listen. Cameron introduced me to holistic health, which he found through his own physical health journey as an athlete. Holistic health helped us both to find our own healing paths. We hope our company can help others to find their own healing path for a mental and physical balance utilizing the skills, tools, and community resources we provide.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We believe that being healthy involves balancing all aspects of your life. That is why we not only provide physical and mental health services, but also provide resources for services we do not provide. Our goal as a company is to become a community resource that connects, empowers, and supports/encourages growth. Our mission at Pure Balance Health Systems is to help individuals and our overall community grow through holistic based physical health treatments, mindfulness and strengths-based therapeutic approaches, resource connection, and a belief that individuals are the experts on themselves. This approach allows us to tailor plans for each client’s unique, individual needs. We have learned that keeping these values at the heart of our work is our best guide. We have both worked elsewhere, and have not found a company that reflects our values, so we decided to create one.

We try to focus our advocacy efforts on those in society who are often not supported or are more at-risk. For example, we are very passionate about advocacy and services for LGBTQIA2S+ individuals of all ages. We believe through embracing our differences, utilizing the unique skills of all in our community, and coming together we can grow stronger together.

Our business is still growing, and we obviously have a lot more to do, but it is amazing to look back on how far we have come. First we were just a community resource website, then we added Cameron’s MAT services, and now we have added Nina’s mental health services. We just finalized land that we will use for greenhouses for our herbal products and are looking into purchasing a spa facility to turn into a community wellness center. Each new step is a challenge. We did not think it was possible to start our own business years ago, and with each step we feel more confident in our vision and mission. The unknown of starting a new business can be terrifying, but every success is worth it when you see your vision coming to life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Our favorite spot in the city is Cheyenne Canyon. People often drive up to the falls, but miss the beauty of the canyon around. We like to take a picnic up there usually and bring the dogs. There are many great hiking trails, but our favorite is Mt. Cutler, but be prepared with good hiking shoes, as it can be steep in some areas. If you are looking for other nature areas, Red Rock Canyon has many trails, and Garden of the Gods has great paved paths for those looking for an easier nature walk.

There is a great art museum that is part of Colorado College as well. Nearby there is a community garden you can walk through that is breathtaking. We love going to the new LGBT+ piano bar called Icons for drag bingo brunch on Saturday’s. It is a great time!

Our favorite local restaurants are House of Yakitori and Rasta Pasta. There is also an amazing tea shop called Yellow Mountain Tea House. Here you can select your own tea blend, and are served in a traditional style with a small but delicious selection of food. Mother Muffs has been around for a long time. It has changed names over the years, but the amazing food has stayed the same. Try their basket of bacon with tons of different flavors, including jalapeno and chocolate. If you are looking for delicious breakfast food, check out the Omlette Parlor. The Rabbit Hole is great late at night!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Obviously, our family and friends have been integral to our success. Without their sharing and support, we would not be here. We would also like to thank our beautiful community for inspiring us to improve for ourselves and each other.
