We had the good fortune of connecting with Olivia Gilley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Olivia, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
As an up and coming esthetician, I have a lot to balance. I am a mother of 3 and I still work full time as a nursing assistant. I am also still in esthetician school. I’m finishing up my program. I have about a month left. When I first began lashing, I was concerned about having my books remain open for such long hours. Having kids and a household to manage can disrupt what I’m trying to provide my clients. I have to learn to be fair to myself and my family. I think balance can be many things but it my line of work it’s between what we can provide our clients and what we need to give ourselves.
What should our readers know about your business?
Developing a business can be so difficult. There are so many businesses in the same line of work but there will never be a YOU. My biggest step was overcoming my fear of failure and jumping right in. I started with promos and free clients. Now I have a good amount of clients, that I see every two to three weeks. I learned along the way that you just have to be open with your clients, make them feel comfortable, always be willing to learn, and never stop practicing. I want the world to know that nothing happens overnight and I work everyday to improve and make my clients happy!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Living in the springs is so fun! I am a Jersey girl so it’s different for me. If I friend was visiting, I’d definitely start with brunch at Urban Egg or Denver Biscuit Co. w Take a hike at Garden of the Gods or visit a hot spring somewhere nearby!
Downtown Colorado Springs for drinks and some dancing. Maybe even a trip to Denver to explore new restaurants or the selfie museum!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shoutout to my sisters, my kids, my cousin, and my an amazing friends. They inspire me continuously everyday to just be myself and enjoy what I do.
