Meet Patsy Prather | Holistic Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Patsy Prather and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Patsy, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
My background is everything to who I am today. Moving got me interested in theatre which led to my design approach. Life happening and marrying someone with mental health and addiction challenges led me to being a life and health coach. I have learned so much from my life experiences and as I’ve gotten older realize that I still have so much to learn. I developed a love of learning people’s stories. I use that love to help my clients express themselves.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am the owner of Patsy by Design. I am a Holistic Designer. I empower personal expression through people’s homes and lives. I use my background in set and lighting design, I have a master’s degree in Design and Technology for Theatre, as the basis of my approach. Just like the set needs to tell the audience something about the show and the characters in it, I think your home should tell people something about you. To work in this curated design style, I have to get to know my clients on a deeper level. Coaching helps me do this. I am also a certified Health and Life Coach. My goal is to create a design that your friends and family come into and say, “Wow this looks just like you!” That is the best design!
In asking many questions and getting to know my clients on that deeper level, I find that life coaching comes into the conversation naturally. How to become the designer of your own life is my coaching focus. I teach people simple repeatable skills that help them keep their lives going where they want them to go even through the challenges life presents. I find that I frequently work with families of loved ones with mental health and addiction issues, because I am one of those families. I also work with the loved ones. I know what it takes to do this because I do it. I am real about the work it takes and the joy it brings!
I have a very practical approach to both homes and lives. I want to know how you live and how to best express that for you. My heart soars when my clients are thrilled by their homes, when they see their lives going where they want them to go. The biggest challenge for me is that my approach is radically different. It takes courage to express yourself. I help make that an easier process that is both fun and rewarding.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love Colorado Springs. I have moved 24 times, and this is my favorite place! I most enjoy the arts here, the fantastic outdoor spaces, and the great food scene. I have family coming into town in a couple months and we will be having a personal art experience, painting with a local artist then enjoying the First Friday Art Walk in Manitou Springs. We will enjoy dinner on one of the many restaurants that have a patio by the creek, Amanda’s Fonda, Border Burger or Wines of Colorado are possibilities. The next day we will be riding the Cog Railway up Pikes Peak to experience the view, the new Summit House and the majesty of our area. Dinner that night will be at one of the wonderful downtown restaurants, IV by Brother Luck, The Rabbit Hole, Coati -there are so many amazing ones to choose from! Our next day will start off with a hike through Garden of the Gods. This is my go-to spot to reenergize and reconnect. In the afternoon we will tour the Olympic Muesum and the America the Beautiful Park. Then because my husband and I love to cook we’ll have dinner at home. All the great food here inspires us to cook amazing this at home. They will wrap up their visit with a day trip to Cripple Creek for gambling and more mountain views. There is so much to do and see here that narrowing it down is the hardest. We are constantly finding new restaurants, new art experiences and new places to go. The Springs is such a great location with so many places to go that are easy day trips. I don’t think we will ever run out of things to do here.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank my husband, Jon Prather; his support and encouragement are critical to my success. I also want to thank the small business community in Colorado Springs. I learn so much from them and am inspired by everyday!
