We had the good fortune of connecting with Patty Powers BSN, RN and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Patty, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I grew up in the middle of the country in a small town, Madison county Virginia. I was homeschooled until eighth grade and then went to a different private school every year of high school. My mom was trying to find the best place for me to go to high school. I come from a background of entrepreneurs and my dad is a carpenter, self-taught. My brother owns his own solar company and they are both quite successful. My dad built my parents house and the older I’ve gotten the more clutter I have seen in the home. I didn’t realize that I had an issue with clutter and anxiety until a few years ago when I flew home to visit.

For context, every time I visit home, I get super anxious and restless after 2-3 days of visiting my parents. After several insightful conversations with my brother & sister-in-law I named it: “clutter in my parents house drives me crazy”! After digging deeper I realized that because it was my childhood home I care about it, so the clutter gets to me.

On the plane to Virginia 2 years ago, I had an amazing conversation with a woman who had just retired and she said she had a basement full of stuff and had no motivation to go through it herself. By the time we were done with the flight, I had volunteered to help her go through her basement with her. Then during that trip to Virginia, I curated a plan for opening my own professional organizing company. I have always been organized and enjoy doing it but my mom always tells the story of when my sister & I played tea as little girls, she could always tell where I was sitting based upon my organized space. Many years and a business later, here I am!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Order And More is a professional organizing company with a focus on mental health and well-being. With a background in nursing we realize (and science shows)that a clearer space equals a clearer mind. Decluttered and organized spaces create better mental health. With this background, we are able to offer compassion and empathy unmatched by others.

We are most excited about working with clients who are ready to transform their home or office space and declutter feverishly! Decluttering is the secret to an organized space which really comes down to decision-making and realizing what objects and material possessions are most important while letting the others fall away.

As a company, we are most excited about networking and truly helping people because that is at the core of our business model. No space is identical and no person is identical so each organization project is tailored to that individual or family.

We got to where we are today from a lot of hard work! It was not easy, but with the encouragement of friends and family it has been a fun endeavor! Some of the lessons that we’ve learned include not paying for advertising, not accepting all jobs, and pushing the comfort zone.

Why not pay for advertising? Because you need to be making money before spending it. All of our social media marketing is done in-house and is paying off.

Why not take every organizing job that comes along? Because the project should be a good fit with the client and company values. Maybe don’t be too picky initially but target your desired audience to get the correct customer. It’s important to align the values in order to achieve customer satisfaction. Another lesson we’ve learned is pushing boundaries and comfort zones is usually a good thing because then we’re learning and expanding, which is always interesting and gratifying.

What we’d like the world to know about our brand and story is that everyone deserves an organized, decluttered space to promote productivity and well-being. Decluttering and having less stuff = more time and freedom to enjoy the things you love!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Favorite spots in the city are viewing the tower of the nature and science museum, and of course, the museum itself! Red rocks is a must see place as well as Garden of the gods, even though it’s a little south. Definitely check out the Colorado railroad Museum. If you have kids or not, it’s a great spot.

Favorite places to eat are City ‘O City, Watercourse Foods, Rootdown, Pho on Broadway and Voodoo donuts! That’s just a starter list but if you’re downtown, there’s plenty of rooftop dining scenes to check out as well. Definitely catch a show at the Gothic if possible or if you’re into theater a show at Denver Center for performing arts.
At some point, you have to go up Clear Creek Canyon if you want to climb or you can check out the climbing gyms by Movement. If you come in the winter, skiing is ann essential. Beginner spots include Eldora, Loveland and Winter Park for starters.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout to several people in my life! First my parents because after all, I wouldn’t be here without them and would not have built my business if it wasn’t for them. Secondly, Marcy S. because she after all is the person who directly influenced me on that plane ride, to start my own company. My husband Roberto, because without his support, my company would not exist! My brother because even though he’s younger, he has a lot of business experience and I lean on him frequently for business advice and website help. My sister and sister-in-law‘s because my sister is extremely levelheaded and well grounded while my sisters-in-law are available for meaningful conversations. And lastly, I cannot forget my amazing friends who have encouraged me and supported me along the way!
