We had the good fortune of connecting with Paul du Coudray and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paul, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“Inspiration is for amateurs.” I actually like the word ‘inspiration’ in its definition of ‘breathe or blow into’ or ‘in spirit’, but I believe this quote is referring to the more mainstream (and unfortunate) definition of something akin to ‘motivation’.
I remind myself of this quote all the time. I can attempt to ‘get inspired’ before starting work, or a project, but often I find that mainstream inspiration is merely the inhalation of fumes from a future outcome I’m hoping will deliver something tangible. But what does that have to do with art? Instead, I could just get to work, and let the practice of making art be what feeds me over time, and maybe inspiration will follow, or maybe it won’t.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Listening is the most important thing to me… listening to what is authentic vs conditioned desires. If I feel close to this during work, I don’t worry about the rest.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hot Springs!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to thank, quite literally, everything and everyone.
