Meet Philip Crumpton | Owner / Founder of Firelight

We had the good fortune of connecting with Philip Crumpton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Philip, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I had a friend and mentor at the time that really pushed me to go out on my own. He saw potential in me and also saw that I would be much happier with the journey of entrepreneurship. I was VERY fortunate that my employer at the time was open to renegotiating my current position to a contract position and they became my first client. And we still serve them to this day, 12 years later.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’ve always believed that technology is really about people. After more than a decade building web solutions for organizations in healthcare, education, and service industries, that’s still the center of our work: understanding what people actually need and creating tools that make their lives easier. Good technology shouldn’t add stress. It should simplify things. For us, that starts with listening well, communicating clearly, and building systems that help people do their best work.
Firelight exists for a simple purpose: to help people and organizations accomplish what matters through empathetic technical expertise. Our values – respect for people, a constructive outlook, responsive communication, deep thinking, and detailed excellence – shape how we show up every day.
Building this business hasn’t been a smooth path, but the hard moments have taught me the most. I’ve learned to stay calm, stay curious, and stay people-centered. When empathy leads the way, the right solutions usually follow.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, of course Garden of the Gods! The Golden Bee by the Broadmoor is a great experience as well, especially on the sing-along nights. Then it may not seem like much, but a bean and cheese burrito from Monica’s Taco Shop is one of my favorite things to eat in town. And I would top it off with a local brewery, of which there seem to be hundreds!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are a lot of people and organizations that have supported me over the years and I know I’m going to forget some of them. But here are the main ones that come to mind today:
Katy Crumpton, my wife of almost 23 years. Zachry Associates, the client mentioned above. Lacey Anderson, my World Class Assistant. The entire Firelight team, currently (in addition to Lacey) Ammar, Estefi, Mariana, and Usama. All of our wonderful customers, especially the kinds ones. 😉
