We had the good fortune of connecting with Quincy Evans and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Quincy, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Living is not without risk. I have taken many risks in my life. Some leading to great reward and some leading to redirection. The one thing that I have found is that no matter the outcome of any risk I have survived and learned which is the reason I continue to take risks. I see risk as an opportunity to learn and improve.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a professional Dog Groomer. Although it is not a regulated trade I have made it my mission and my passion to continue my education and be the best I can be. I began as a dog trainer at PetsMart. Moving my way into the salon part time I fell in love with the setting. I attended Utah School of Pet Grooming and graduated as a Certified Pet Stylist in November of 2020. I began working for a small salon in Provo Utah where I was introduced to the world of Competitive Dog Grooming. I attended a creative grooming competition in Las Vegas where I fell in love with the art. I came home and got to work learning and practicing and the next year I was on that stage placing 3rd with my very first creative grooming design. I have since gone on to compete in many creative grooming competitions where I have won, lost, and learned from each and every one. In June of 2023 I tested with the National Dog Grooming Association becoming Nationally Certified in grooming Non-Sporting breeds. This began my journey in becoming a Nationally Certified Master Groomer. I am happy to report I am half way through my testing to make this goal a reality. May of 2024 I tested and competed on a Soft Coated Wheaton- Terrier. My first time with this style I was beyond surprised to pass my test and win three awards for the groom. I now work out of Hawkeyes Dog Spa where I continue to work on my portfolio. With my background in dog training my passion is with the especially challenging clients. I enjoy connecting with the dogs with past trauma or lack of exposure to the grooming salon. The aggressive, nervous, and anxious. Getting to where I am has not been easy. Working very long hours, making mistakes, and questioning if Im taking the right path. I tribute my success to my willingness to learn and my search for education. Making connections with people who can teach me. Putting myself in the position to be critiqued. As well as documenting my progress. I want people to know me as a gentle groomer. A pet professional that wishes to educate the pet parent. I put the health and safety of my clients first and love them as my own.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I personally love Milk and Honey Coffee on Blake Street. I very much enjoy the night life of RiNo. The restaurant and bars are all delicious and I can always find a good conversation. A walk around Sloans lake is very nice on a sunny day

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would not be where I am without Kirsty Lous Doggie Doos, Utah Dog Groomers Association, National Dog Groomer Association and the American Kennel Association.
