We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachel, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
I do not define success monetarily or materialistically. Success comes from within, when you are continuing to challenge yourself, continue to educate yourself and continue to pour into yourself to build the best of YOU. Be the one that sits up front, the one that asks all the questions, be the one that builds others up and can learn from their success. Success is finding joy in the things you do with your life whether at home or working, it is the people you surround yourself with and leading others with an open mind and loving heart. I know I am succeeding when my creativity is still flowing, I’m still finding inspiration in the world around me and I can apply it to my business and home life and continuing to inspire the souls around me. Gifting is my love language, my business allows me to give so much and the end result, seeing how I may have touched someones life is my ultimate reward and success.

What should our readers know about your business?
The Scentsy Mission is to bring value to the world by providing an industry-leading, family-friendly business opportunity selling creative, artistic, high-quality products that Warm the Heart, Enliven the Senses and Inspire the Soul. Scenty’s values are guided by three core values: Simplicity, Authenticity and Generosity. We call it the “Scentsy Spirit” and its building a happy place for everyone. Because Scentsy allows us to be authentic and run our business how we want, within Scentsy’s guidelines, I am able to redirect my anxiety and extra energy into creativity. My authenticity is what grew my business. Scentsy has great product, no doubt, but it is the ability to be myself, market myself and my product with my branded personality- that is what sells and that is how my business has grown. People refer me to their friends and co-workers because of the rapport I have built with my customers. It’s built on honesty, trust, reliability and optimism. Was it easy to get here? Absolutely not. I started with $0. I earned my join kit for free. I heard the word “No” many times and that can become discouraging. I began to grow quiet and think maybe I’m just annoying these people. Once I realized I was still standing and breathing after hearing the word “no” and I dove into more of Scentsy’s culture, I realized it was selfish of me to not share my business and the amazing incentives, including travel that come with it! Scentsy’s core values should be implemented in any workplace, it may increase employee productivity because the employees are happy! It is more than wax and warmers. Scentsy allows you to fit your business into your life, not arrange your life around your business. This is a company that offers so many resources and so much support that there is no doubt, your business can be a success if you work for it. When you want something, its not impossible. Growth is uncomfortable, stay uncomfortable and you’ll keep growing.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When my sister comes to visit from Washington State, I always want to take her someplace old and someplace new I have found. We would definitely start with breakfast at Bon Ton’s Cafe down in Old Colorado City. Their cinnamon raisin french toast or Salmon Benny is probably my favorite… actually, anything I have had there is incredible, it’s an entire vibe! We would then take a trip to Manitou Springs – Probably my favorite little local hot spot with unique stores, a vibrant and diverse crowd and the best arcade- The Penny Arcade! We would take a drive through Garden of the Gods to see the beautiful rock formations. We would take the 4.2 mi hike through Black Forest Section 16 which has gorgeous views and wild life through the hike. We would have lunch at Roll Up, ugh, the monte cristo egg rolls are so good, I’m almost drooling thinking about it now! We would definitely take a trip up to Bishop’s Castle, it’s almost tradition now when she visits. We can get some good photos, beautiful scenery and occasionally overcome a fear of heights by climbing one step higher than the last time. I’m a chicken, my legs shake and I freeze, it’s an adrenaline rush for sure! We would take in a concert if available downtown at Weidner Field, then ride the scooters down to Rendezvous Cigar & Cocktail lounge to cap off the night with a dessert beverage, the Java Elixir. If she were here for a week, we would squeeze in a short camping trip, lounge in some hammocks and fish up at 11 Mile Canyon or Maintou Lake Park in Woodland Park. I have to take her to a concert at Red Rocks! That’s a must! We would take a trip to see if Rainbow Falls was open (I still haven’t been) to take a peek. I know my sister would sneak in a few trips to Dunkin’ Donuts because she doesn’t have one back home. Craving pizza one night? We are definitely heading to Slice420 for a slice of the Sophia with extra hot honey and their Cesar salad. Down in Manitou and want pizza? Get a slice of Mac N Cheese pizza at Ruffrano’s Hell’s Kitchen Pizza. Mexican Food? We are heading to Amanda’s Fonda down in Manitou Springs with the creek side seating. Such a vibe and their mini chimis are the bomb. Good Coffee? We are heading to Dutch Bros of course! Dutch is always bound to increase someones vibe and energy, like a vibrant shot of caffeine to instantly cheer you up- Shoutout to the best barista Kayleigh G.! Need a quick stop at the sauna or gym? I’m heading to our local community center in Meridian Ranch to lounge in the lazy river or get my cardio on! We would visit the Pioneer Museum and ride the ancient elevator. It’s one of my favorite museums, I’ve been multiple times and always learn something new. Want to see a movie? We are headed to Roadhouse! They have the best popcorn and the fact you can order food and drinks from your seat is pretty fun! If it is the summer time, we will make a stop at Smith Farms for some great local (giant) produce and their candied jalapeños. We’re foodies, can you tell? I have restaurant referrals for day. Lastly, I have been working really hard on my health so I would try to convince her to visit Fight Like Hell Fitness for a kick in the booty with me by Bridgette.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my Shoutout to my family. They say “it takes a tribe”. There are a lot of us and it really is a family effort. Thanks to my Mom & Dad for always being there, supporting my adventures. You gave me patience and love while I figured out how to pivot my life and what I wanted for mine and the kids future. My mom is my biggest cheerleader and customer! I would like to thank Nathaniel & Olivia, my children, they are my daily motivation to be a better person and better businesswoman. The three of us rose up from a pretty tough situation and navigated a new normal. I want to lead by example and raise good, kind humans. I appreciate their time making my deliveries efficiently as well. I would like to thank my husband, Eric & step-son Gabe. These two came into my life at the perfect time of self healing. The two of them are always there to help me pack, unpack, load and unload, setup, take down while braving the unpredictable weather and when I decide to re-organize the house for the millionth time, they just do it with all their unconditional support. Eric is always there with patience and grace helping any way he can whether it’s just reminding me to keep my chin up on days I feel defeated or feeding me snacks in bed because I’m exhausted. Thank you Teyah & Alyn, my nieces, for always helping me pack up my orders and putting so much love into the help you give Auntie! They are little future entrepreneurs. Thank you to my customers and your referrals. I started this business as a hobby, something for my mom and I to use personally and you guys captured my heart by embracing my authentic self, allowing me to be weird, you engaged and spread the word, thank you! Susan B. Thank you for the Leadership Retreat. It was the best thing my soul needed to jump start myself and my business! I love you all so very much and without you guys, my business would not have grown so into such a vibrant and positive crowd pushing me to always do better and grow each day!
