Meet Randy Segura | Arthotspot Studios

We had the good fortune of connecting with Randy Segura and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Randy, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued this career because of my love for creating, and creativity. There’s an intense focus I have when I’m in the midst of creating, and seeing that as a young man told me all that I needed to know. I was a criminal justice major when I first went to college, which also helped me to realize what I wanted and didn’t want to do with my life. When I switched to commercial art it all started to make complete sense, and over the years I gravitated towards working for myself. Basically, I can do art all day and feel refreshed in my satisfaction with the work I’ve just done not tired or spent like the feelings I get from other forms of work. Art to me doesn’t feel like work at all.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
There’s a deep desire inside me to do nothing more than make people smile, and as a young child learned that I could do that through art. Even today while creating chalk art on the street and watching people interact with a 3D art piece created by myself, seems to satisfy the same need. I would have to say that is one of my proudest artistic achievements, even though I’ve won an Emmy for creating chalk art, and traveled around the country getting paid to chalk on streets, having the opportunity to put smiles on faces is priceless. I truly enjoy working hard creating artwork that’s timeless yet temporary only there for those lucky enough to see it’s creation. I want Arthotspot Studios to be known for creating one of a kind artworks and experiences that people will remember and be affected by in a positive way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Let’s see there’s so much to do around town. I’m a nature lover so definitely we’d have to check out the west side of the metro area for Red Rocks, and Bear Creek. We own a cabin up in Park county near Bailey so some hiking up near Mt. Rosalie is fun, and Bailey has a bunch of cool shops, restaurants, and breweries. As far as Denver goes, it’s fun to hang out downtown check out the 16th St. mall and LoDo. Definitely gotta tour Santa Fe Blvd. check out the galleries, and grab a bite to eat at El Taco de Mexico on 7th and Santa Fe, or El Noa Noa. There’s also some murals to see, and plenty of professional sports teams in town if that’s what you like. Usually I’m down for anything seeing as I’ve probably done it before and it’s always fun times exploring and experiencing Denver with fam, friends and the ones you love.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would have to say my wife of over twenty years has to be the one I want to shout out. Her support over the years has been invaluable towards me achieving my goals. She’s a rock holding everything down giving me the ability to pursue opportunities whether local, or through traveling. Her critique of my art is always honest and many times at odds with my thoughts. She keeps it real, and I appreciate that being a creative who tends to get lost in a childlike view of the world holding onto my creative wonderment.
