Meet Rebecca Simonson | Licensed Massage Therapist & Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebecca Simonson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rebecca, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life” -Confucius; This quote was one that I was introduced to me at the massage school I attended. It is my favorite because it’s a quote that really resonates with me and my passion for massage. When I have to take time off work, I am always excited to go back to work. This quote describes and fits the passion behind what I do. It reminds me that I made a decision for myself rather than others to pursue my goals. That because I followed my heart instead of expectations of others, I paved the way to having a place where I will spend my time and energy towards things that fuel my fire and that will end up supporting my family and I.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a massage therapist who specializes in Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy. This is a style of barefoot massage that uses bars above a massage for balance as the therapist uses their foot and body weight to apply broad even pressure. Although I specialize in this style, I, also, do other modalities such as traditional massage, cupping, and prenatal massage.
After working for a massage studio from out of massage school, I decided that it was time to start a new path and create a private practice where I had more freedom and control. It definitely took a ton of time and effort although thanks to the support of my friends, family, and community I was able to create something that I am really proud of.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite place to be that I would love to share with those I care about would have to be my taekwondo dojang. I am constantly over there and the people there are so great. Some other places that I like to show coming into town is Meco Coffee Collective and going to some of the local parks, such as Roosevelt Park. I love to visit local shops such as White Castle Gaming where and when I am able to.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A huge shout out to my husband, Jaiden and my family for being a big support to me. From going through massage school to starting my business, they have shown me a tremendous amount of patience and understanding that is a key in me carrying on with my practice. My massage school, the Berkana Institute of Massage Therapy, and my mentor, Jill Berkana was also a really big help and influence for helping me get to where I am with business guidance and advice.
