We had the good fortune of connecting with Remus Ionescu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Remus, can you tell us about an impactful book you’ve read and why you liked it or what impact it had on you?
A book that profoundly influenced us is “The Creative Act: A Way of Being” by Rick Rubin. This beautifully written work serves as a thoughtful exploration of the emotional journey involved in harnessing creativity. When we delved into its pages, we found ourselves deeply connected to its message. Although it initially appears to be a book about art, it actually serves as a guide to living a more creative life. It reminds us that by tuning into the world around us, we can uncover a wealth of creative inspiration.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My partner and I specialize in crafting unique home decor and furniture pieces that seamlessly blend different eras and narratives. What sets us apart from others in our field is our commitment to creating truly one-of-a-kind items that evoke a sense of history and storytelling.

One of the things I’m most proud of is our ability to transform ordinary objects into functional art pieces. We take great joy in scouring antique shops, flea markets, and even dumpsters to find materials with hidden potential. Whether it’s repurposing old hardwood flooring into furniture legs or giving new life to weathered fence pickets as wall art, our creations carry the essence of the past into the present.

Professionally, our journey has been both rewarding and challenging. It hasn’t been easy, but every obstacle has taught us valuable lessons. Overcoming these challenges often required us to be resourceful, persistent, and open to learning from our mistakes. We’ve learned that resilience and a willingness to adapt are key to success in this industry.

What we want the world to know about us and our brand is that each piece we create is a labor of love. We pour our passion for history, design, and craftsmanship into every project. Our goal is to not only provide our clients with beautiful and functional pieces for their homes but also to share the stories and character that come with each creation. Ultimately, we hope to inspire others to appreciate the beauty of the past and the art of repurposing in a world that often values mass-produced items.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Here’s a maker-themed itinerary:

We know it’s not difficult to find dispensary’s where you can purchase weed, though there are places at which we enjoy it: Police & Thieves (women and minority owned and operated) and Lightshade (expert budtenders and dedication to community support and philanthropy).

Visit:
1. CS Woods/Rockler/Woodcraft to replenish materials/tools

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Hate and Coffee deserve a bit of credit and recognition in our story. For those who, like us, may have lacked support, mentorship, love, or encouragement, I want to emphasize the importance of believing in yourself first. Keep creating despite doubt and insecurity. By improving yourself, you can contribute to a better world collectively.
