We had the good fortune of connecting with Robb Moreira and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Robb, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
The biggest habit that helped me succeed was taking any income I made from my business and immediately reinvesting it back into the business. I did this for the first 3 years and was able to have a professional broadcast studio in my home ready to contend with most professionals already working in the voice-over business.
Another habit was keeping myself in practice. I attended many workshops where I could not only refine my own craft to be able to act in a new medium (I was originally a theater actor), but also be able to learn from my peers. By being able to remain observant of actors in all levels of their career, I was able to learn great habits for myself and learn techniques I hadn’t thought of yet.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from a lot of voice actors is what I can offer. My branding is “Get More” and it is something I stand by. Besides having a conservatory-trained actor who has performed and studied theater for over a decade, but I am also fluent in two languages (English and Spanish). My clients get a professional actor in two languages. Many clients enjoy this as I do the job of two actors in half the time and effort on their part, so it benefits all parties involved.
In terms of how I got to my current level in the industry, it took much time and even more patience. A career in the arts is very difficult to build and even harder to keep. Patience though and building relationships and a reputation that precedes me definitely helped solidify me in the industry as a “Go to” talent. It definitely was not easy and took a lot of work on my end.
I wouldn’t say that I faced challenges, but the amount of time it takes to build a business for yourself in the arts requires patience that many actors do not have. Especially with how connected actors are to each other on social media and only seeing other actors’ successes makes it difficult to see and appreciate your own. Avoiding social media in my business’s infancy definitely helped avoid the “imposter syndrome” that many actors develop early in their careers.
In terms of what I’d like the world to know about my brand and my story, I’d like the world to know that I am one of the best at what I do and I only got here through persistence, patience, and perseverance.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take this friend to eat lunch at Katz Deli, a show on Broadway or maybe a concert and to just enjoy the city. NYC is an electric city and just walking the Highline on 34th st or seeing the Hudson Yards is phenomenal to witness in person. It’s incredible what this city has to offer others and how much you will see just walking a mile or two in one direction. The museums are phenomenal and you can eat food from, literally, EVERY country in NYC. If you imagine it, you can probably find it.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The biggest shout-out has to go to a fellow actor that had the utmost confidence in my ability when I humored making the jump to voice acting, Sri Gordon. Sri is a phenomenal actress herself, but the excitement she showed when I expressed interest was the catalyst for me to even try. Without that immediate belief in my abilities, I’m not sure if I ever would have made the jump.
Another shout-out has to go to a studio in NYC that always believed in me. Abacus Entertainment. The owners, Bruce Kronenberg and Bryant Faulk, always knew that I had the talent to really make it. They saw in me what I didn’t know just starting out. My career and level in the industry was something they knew from the beginning and have supported me every step of the way.
