We had the good fortune of connecting with Robin Lyons and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Robin, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
This is an interesting question for me, given the path my life has taken and its impact on my business. I have dealt with a chronic pain condition for many years, and at times, I have had to take a step back from creating because it simply was not an option. Even during those times, I never considered giving up. It was too much a part of me. I knew it was just a matter of riding the waves between sickness and wellness, and finding the opportunities when I could get back to my craft. Right now, it is a time when I am not particularly well, but I am still creating – just working on finding the right balance that honors the part of me that requires limitations while also honoring the part that thrives on creative expression. I think if you love what you do, you will find your way back to it somehow, even if it doesn’t look exactly like the picture in your head.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
While I work with a variety of stones and materials in my jewelry, my greatest passion is for raw minerals. This refers to stones that are not cut, shaped, or polished. They are in their purest form, beautiful in their imperfections and flaws, just like humans. They are not pretending to be anything other than what they are. I find that in a world that emphasizes the importance of physical perfection and standards of beauty, it is freeing to create art out of something so natural and beautiful in its own right.

My path to where I am today has not been smooth and has had many unexpected twists and turns, but I have always managed to come back to my craft because it is a part of me. I have learned to work within my limitations and to adjust my expectations. My greatest passion in creating jewelry is in bringing joy to others, whether that is a close friend, a family member, or one of my lovely customers buying a piece for themselves or a loved one. The most satisfying part of my work is taking a collection of raw materials, each unspectacular on its own, and bringing them together to create something that holds special meaning to its owner.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My hubby and I moved to northern Colorado last summer – Loveland, specifically – and it is such a lovely place to live (and visit)! Favorite spots in Loveland:
Coffee – Dark Heart Coffee Bar (beautiful atmosphere, kind baristas, high quality drinks and ingredients)
Food – Henry’s Pub downtown (delicious food and great quality), PizzaVino NoCo Italiano (a little fancier, excellent quality), Arté Pizzeria (best local pizza hands down)
Art/Nature – Benson Sculpture Garden (beautiful walking paths surrounded by incredible sculptures)

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am so lucky to have so many supportive, loving forces in my life. My husband Patrick, who has been excited to see my new creations for the past ten years, my Mom and Dad, my brother Scotty, my mother and father-in-law, my amazing friends (namely Vanessa, Bria, Eleanor, Ellie who have accumulated quite extensive collections of my jewelry over the years). I love you all and could never say how much your endless support means to me.
