Meet Rudi Monterroso | handcrafted playhouses

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rudi Monterroso and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rudi, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I think my success as an artist is because I am honest to my process. My work has a lot of craftsmanship and many people would take shortcuts to make the project faster. I focus on the process and not on the outcome so I spend an insane amount of hours on my playhouses handcrafting every piece of it.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a professional artist. As a painter; I paint with my feet while dancing flamenco. I am colorblind and was able to find my way to paint and have fun. As a sculpture, I can build just about anything. If you can imagine it (I can make it). As a business, I build unique handcrafted playhouses. I am proud about my ability to problem solve and create any art I want. It allows me to make quality art. I got here as an artist by realizing that sometimes what we think of weakness is our uniqueness. And if we are able to embrace our uniqueness, we can find our straints. I overcame my challenges not by focusing on what I can not do, but embracing the way I do things different. the lesson I learn is that process and perseverance are two of the most important skills one can have. I want people to know that talent is not important if people that are talented do not have have perseverance, and embrace their process to the limits. I did not grew up with any special talents. But I have perseverance. and as long I have not giving up, I have not feil.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I will take my friend to the Denver Botanic Gardens, and spend most of the day walking around and end up having a coffee and snack by the greenhouse. My connection to nature influences my art and that is the place I most feel connected.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family. My mother for raising me and gave me the values to be the person I am. To my wife and kids for their love and support as an artist and pursue my dream as a artist.
