We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan Gaffney and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ryan, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am originally from New England but didn’t get into photography until I moved to South Florida. I started taking pictures in high school and I really took an interest to landscape photography with all the sunsets and water down here. I have also been lucky enough to travel to many different state parks across the US and this made me realize how much I like to take pictures in the serenity of nature, no matter the climate. I’ve always valued the memories made and pictures taken on my travels but never decided to share them with others until now.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am proud to show off my photography. It was always more of a hobby that I kept to myself but I think with the minimal equipment I have, I’ve been able to produce a style of photos that would make myself stop and take a closer look at them if viewed in a gallery. I am still not where I’d like to be professionally and definitely working towards the end goal of making this a full time commitment. While there is nothing specific I would like the world to know about me, I would like the world to at least view my pictures and form their own opinions on my work. I believe that photography when done right can be very thought provoking and that is something I aim to do with my pictures.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Although I like to spend money at restaurants trying new foods and drinks. I also enjoy going off the grid for a bit, whether it is a secluded hiking trail or snowboarding at the top of a mountain, I will always pick an outdoor adventure over being inside. (Especially if it gives me an opportunity to take more pictures.) Some of my favorite outdoor spots in Colorado are Estes Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, and Mary Jane in Winter Park. With a state like CO having so many state parks available to the public, there are many other places I have yet to visit but would like to, like Mesa Verde Park.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would definitely like to thank my mom for all her support with moving forward with my photography. She definitely helped motivate me to take the next step and share my pictures online as well as gave me opportunities since I was a kid to travel and take pictures in new places. She has always looked out for the best interest of myself and my brother and I will always be grateful for that.
