We had the good fortune of connecting with Salvatore Viviano and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Salvatore, why did you pursue a creative career?
It just happened. I ‘wasn’t supposed to’, I was studying law and literature in Italy. Later, I found myself in Paris working in the entertainment and fashion business, and then in the contemporary art business in Vienna…

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a visual and performance artist. But I am also curating shows. And I wrote a book. And I am also an actor. I think the question ‘what’s your profession’ is a pretty complex one 🙂 I studied law and literature in Palermo, Italy, but I found myself bored and moved to Paris where I started to work in the field of fashion, Public Relations to be precise. Then, I got bored again and I became a TV personality, working in several French TV shows. And also starred in three movies, two of them selected at the Cannes Festival. The, I got bored, really? In Paris, I met a contemporary art collective form Austria, named Gelitin, outrageously fabulous. I fell in love with them and I follow them, First to the Venice Biennial in 2006, then to Vienna a couple of years later. I moved there. From Palermo, to Paris to Vienna. Three different countries, three different languages, three different cultures. very different… Was it easy? I don’t know, I am delusional. How did I overcome the challenges? Just pretending there are none. Lessons I’ve learned along the way… uhm… ok: 1) travel light, never checked luggage 2) get the best of any situation 3) be a god person, Karma, baby, Karma 4) be sure to know precisely what you don’t want do in your life 5) never wear Crocs What do I want the world to know about me? Though question, very though. My megalomania is suggesting me to answer “my name”. My humbler part of me is adding “and my face.”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
