We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Lisle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, why did you pursue a creative career?
Funny enough, I began photography because I’ve always been interested in art. I always said that when I grew up I wanted to be an artist and a teacher. While going to school to get my teaching degree, I began my photography business. Initially, I think the reason I pursued my artistic career was because it gave me an outlet that I didn’t always have as a teacher to create art and capture love in a special way. What kept me pursuing my business after I graduated and throughout the years has been the dual need to always have a creative outlet, and to also have an outside focus in the midst of motherhood. I’m so grateful, when I look back at all I’ve done, to see how my business has helped me retain my sense of self in motherhood through the art I’m able to create for other families and parents. It’s really beautiful how the two work together, to me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’d say one thing that sets me apart from the many other talented photographers in our area is how I show the magic and beauty of life within the mundane and the ordinary. I don’t over-pose or over-edit your images, rather I seek the celebrate all parts of you and your family and the natural connection you share together. I’m really proud of how my work helps capture the details of life that are often glossed over in media and other more polished photography styles; wrinkled hands and cheeks, different sizes and shapes of bodies, how bodies can grow and change throughout parenthood, etc. I love showing my clients how perfect they are in this exact moment through my images.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Most of my free time is spent focusing on nature and good food, so that’s definitely what I’d focus on with visitors. I’d start the day getting pastries at La Baguette De Normandy, then we would probably go for a local hike to Castlewood Canyon, Mt. Falcon State park, or Roxborough State Park. Paddleboarding at Chatfield State Park would definitely be on the list, as well as a short cat nap in my backyard hammock. Then we’d finish the day getting dinner out, maybe some indian food from Haveli Indian Cuisine – they have an amazing Mango Lassi.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
In a previous interview, I gave the credit of helping me have the courage to start and continue my business to my wonderful husband. He’s still the number one person who gives me the most support, love, and encouragement in my business. But if I had to shoutout to something else, my thoughts immediately turn to the podcasts and books and courses that have helped me gain new perspectives in my business and creative work. To name a specific influence, I’d have to name Brooke Schultz and her Love-Soaked Family Course as well as her Wildly Creative Life Podcast. She is the greatest example of someone who infuses her work with her life, and her life into her work. I continue to learn so much from her example and her work.
